When I was at LSU in 1979 there was this really ferocious football player, but I can't quite remember his name. I think he played defense, and his name was something like George Atillya or Akillah. It may not have been George but his last name definitely started with an A. I hope somebody else remembers him. Thanks for any help. :)

George Atiyeh. We was a defensive lineman and was an SEC heavyweight wrestling champ.

He also was a recipient of a devastating chop block his senior year, similar to Dorsey's. I don't believe he played again.

Apparently, the chop-block didn't end his football career. He played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburg Steelers and with the Denver Gold in the old USFL. He and his brothers got into trouble with some off-shore betting schemes. Google yielded this from 2005: Action Date: February 3, 2005
    Location: Philadelphia, PA

On February 3, 2005, former Philadelphia Eagles player George Atiyeh was sentenced in federal district court in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to 18 months in prison for bankruptcy fraud. Atiyeh pleaded guilty in October, 2004, to embezzlement from a bankruptcy estate. The charges were related to atiyeh’s construction company, quality realty construction, which filed for bankruptcy in 1997. Atiyeh concealed a $425,000 contract from the bankruptcy. Atiyeh was also convicted in an unrelated scheme of running an illegal sports-betting business and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Like to blame him, but naww that was a bit before his time:lol:

BTW, this goes to show you that wrestling causes brain damage!

    Carface What the...?

Speaking of wrestlers and LSU, this guy played at least one football and wrestling season for LSU before leaving when the LSU got rid of wrestling. Who knew?

I got an autograph from Atiyeh once. I was playing peewee BREC football in Baton Rouge in '79 or '80 and Atiyeh was one of two LSU players who came to our banquet at the end of the season, I was 8 or 9 years old. The other player there was Benji Thibodeaux, heckuva D-line.
