We seem to be arguing the same point. I'm well aware that USC is not the Rose Bowl committee, and said nothing about USC ducking anybody. Unless of course the committee picked up the phone and asked Pete who he would rather play, something that couldn't possibly happen, right? Whether anything untoward happened or not, the Rose committee saw to it that USC won't be playing the best available team. Or are you going to give me some crap about that too? Have a great day.
My best explanation for all of the above is that none of em are going to NOLA come 7 Jan. :crystal: :geauxtige
The bottom line, for me, is that these BCS matchups suck. Most of them sucked last year too. That is to be expected when the conference champs are all tied into bowls - i.e. they can't play each other. That still leaves the possibility of one or two decent matchups, but the bowl committee's usually screw that up too. As a college football fan, it is really disheartening. Give us the best matchups! The system should determine matchups based on BCS rankings. Screw tradition. Tradition is dead. Make a new tradition of first rate matchups among the nation's best teams.
I may be way off but dont be surprised if Illinois dosnt play USC much closer then everyone thinks. They have a solid defense and their running back/QB combo is hard to stop. They run traditional spread which anyone who knows anything about football knows its the ultimate speed equilizer.
The Rose Bowl wants the Pac 10 against the Big 10. That is the Rose Bowl tradition. You don't have to look any further than that for an explaination.
That's easy. It is cold in Illinois this time of year. They need to warm their bones. They don't want to come to NOLA because they remember what happened to them the last time they came here. wicked storm coming into So.Cal now. Up to 3 inches of rain and highs in the low 50s the next few days. Still better than Illinois, ha. Seriously, I don't know. Folks in the Big-10 feel like they own this bowl, as do those in the Pac-10. They have a real connection with it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Rose Bowl Comittee is stacked with alums from both Conferences. Remember, there are a lot of transplants out here. Other than neighboring states (AZ, OR, WA), I'd say the largest group of transplants out here are easily from the Midwest and Northeast. I don't meet too many people out here from traditional SECOND territory, although I did give an Auburn fan some crap up in Anaheim before our game and an FU alum out in Palm Desert before our game with them. But it is always good-humored crap because we are so few and far between out here, that we always seem to enjoy talking to each other and dumping on the Punk-10.
the bluehairs on the committee don't want to upset that tradition and go outside the established box. too much negativity
