This is how I see it went down:
1. UM went to Mile's agent and showed interest
2. Miles said he doesn't want to talk about jobs 2 weeks ago, but his agent and UM were possibly working on a contract. He obviously had interest and wanted the job.
3. After the Arky loss, UM gets permission to talk to Miles, LSU says only after the SECCG.
4. I think the Miles interview could've been just a formality but we may never know. I think something was already ironed out with UM at this point.
5. LSU showed Miles what they would pay him to counter UM in the event he had the UM offer already or LSU was trying to head off the UM advances before the interview
5. Desmond Howard leaked to Herby that Miles was going to UM, which could've been accurate and I suspect was accurate. If Desmond was the leaker, then we know that Miles was actually going to UM.
6. Miles was forced into a decision since he had a SECCG to play and agreed verbally to LSU, but hasn't signed anything.
7. Now will UM still go after Miles? I think it is possible.
I don't think ESPN tried to affect any SECCG with leaking the info. They wanted to be the first to report it and I think it had some truth to it. I think ESPN forced Les into a corner with this announcement, so Les and LSU had to make a decision. I hope Miles stays, but he was elusive in his answers during the PC and only said he would be the coach at LSU next year with the CBS girl. I still feel a little uneasy until he signs the contract.
If ESPN wouldn't have spilled the beans ( I do think there were beans to be spilt) Les would be going to UM. But the leaking of the story and now LSU is in the NT game, Les will be staying at LSU. I do think there was truth to what ESPN reported.
It was only "erroneous" info after Miles had verbally agreed with LSU on Friday night.
Just my opinion.
