Yes they shouldn't be #1, they should be #0! I just don't understand people bitching about the offense and defense, both of which are #1 in the SEC. Now . . . special teams has underperformed all year and most of the previous two years. Something ain't right on special teams and coach Peveto should be held accountable for it.
I'm surprised at you taking a cheap shot at me by only half representing what I said. I haven't been dumping on LSU tonight, but I don't think it is unfair to recognize that we gained over 400 yards on offense and were outgained by the team on the other side of the ball. This year's performance for the past few games doesn't seem on par with what we're used to. We are what we are and I don't expect us to be more than what we are, but I don't think there is anything wrong with what I said. I realized when I said what I said that we were statistically the #1 defense in total yards allowed going into this game. Anyway, I didn't appreciate the dig and thought better of you. I surely don't know everything, but I didn't think I needed to to share my opinions.
actually, I thought the Offense looked alot better than usual. regardless of who we played, we came out and started the game with a good sustained drive and never had to play catch up ball. Matt didnt throw it up for grabs no INT's Good QB execution even when pressured.....thats a good thing. You win games like that. the defense has been playing about the same the last few games, giving away too many points and yards IMHO BUT..... they always seem to MAN UP and get the job done where it counts, and for this I love them. Our take aways are better, Id like to see more Sacks but Shaffer is highly mobile so that was a wash... special teams.... well we dont do so great. Except when Trindon H. touches the ball, which is the exception instead of the rule. but yes coverage is less than stellar to say the least. Penalties? I thought we did better this game.. am I right? who has these stats? I thought we had alot less "stupid" penalties. Play calling looked better, we mixed the run up and I couldnt see any play that looked "bone headed" and normally I have one or two where I scratch my head. Not that Im a genius coach or anything, just saying. So from MY point of view we improved some at least on every aspect. maybe with the exception of special teams defense. :geauxtige
This may be the worst special teams I have ever seen at LSU. Both on Bama and Ole Miss punt returns, some very basics of overrunning the receiver of the punt cost us. That's punt coverage 101. Way too many kickoff returns going beyond the 35.
BUT overall, we HAVE to feel better about the offense. I know we sputtered a time or two BUT We came out first QTR with a LONG drive agaisnt a Decent Ole Miss Defense and we didnt turn the ball over ..... no INT's credit MATT for correcting this problem because Ole miss did pressure him at times. Granted once or twice he did get rid of it but bottom line no INT's. I think the Defense is as solid as it's going to be. You cant expect a defense to play Lights out for 4 qtrs when your offense stays on the bench all the time. Not that we DO that, Im just saying, we've had a pretty tough schedule for or defense to wade through. I certainly feel better about this win than I did about the "come back" wins. Bottom Line the offense looked better, defense got the job done as usual. Good job tigers! :tigereye:  :geauxtige
I agree on that point as well! They MUST play smarter!!! But, I think the O-line needs to protect the QB better, the D goes to zone too often (coaching).
Wow, I was pleased overall with the game. Our penalties weren't as bad as usual and we Didn't turn the ball over. I am so impressed that we use 4 to 5 rb's and they don't turn the ball over. What gets lost in this game is MF, someone who gets criticized a lot for in int's he has thrown. I like other people are a little worried about special teams but it could always be worse. I don't think we've had a kick or extra point blocked and we have had at least one special teams play go for a td.
