While UT is not good, it is still a win against a SEC opponent. An opponent that was heavily picked as the favorite in the game even by some on this forum. I'm happy with their performance nevertheless.
I'm predicting that they won't be eligible to play... From the Alabama Press-Register: I'm glad they're being allowed to practice though...it'll make for a nice distraction.
The investigation revealed that the books were obviously unused by the Bammer football players, because the books had yet to be colored in.
Hmmm, sounds like this might be out of Saban's hands. I wonder if this might spread to other players and be a huge Gump scandal.
I don't know the $ amount at bama, but there was a similar case recently. It only took 2 years for the NCAA to rule, http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2007-10-16-2881513112_x.htm Ball State put on probation for 2 years for NCAA violations Posted document.write(niceDate('10/16/2007 6:23 PM'));6d 4h ago | Comment | Recommend1 E-mail | Save | Print | swapContent('firstHeader','applyHeader');By Steve Herman, AP Sports Writer INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA put Ball State on probation for two years and cut three football scholarships because of misuse by athletes of a textbook loan program. The penalties announced Tuesday by the Division I Committee on Infractions also included a reduction of money available for men's tennis scholarships and a restriction on the number of hours per week allowed for softball practice. The infractions involved 89 athletes in 10 sports from the spring semester of 2003 to the end of the 2004-05 school year. A separate investigation is ongoing involving former men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson, who resigned in July amid accusations that he and his assistants broke NCAA rules by attending voluntary offseason workouts in 2006 and 2007 and lying about their involvement. The unidentified athletes in the textbook investigation obtained $26,944 in books for classes in which they weren't enrolled. In some cases, they obtained more than one copy of a book, which they gave to others. The university, which began its own investigation more than two years ago, accepted the NCAA findings without a formal hearing before the infractions committee. The probation will run through Oct. 15, 2009.
From what I've read online it appears that the NCAA has demanded a full audit of all the books distributed to ALL BAMA ATHLETES and the players in question will be suspended until this investigation is complete. This will take at least a month. They'll be lucky to play in the Rust Bowl. Fahgetaboutit. They still don't know who else is involved. They may find more in the off week, and if they do--they have to sit also with suspensions. Hold your horses johnnie--this could be fun over the next two weeks. :sob:
Bama was favored to win...as far as Vegas was concerned. (although the spread was a little tighter than the actual score:thumb: )
