But I thought players didn't make any money? I don't think this game is an instance where you point fingers at players. Too many of them made mistakes...
You can't blame Miles but certainly can question some of his decisions. Everyone knows Scott and RP should have played in the second half.
If we score a touchdown when we dropped that pass in the endzone, we win and Miles gets no heat. I'm sick of hearing "outcoached" it's the most overused, lay blame, cover everything excuse that we fans use to explain away losses. It seems like everytime a team loses, it's because they were outcoached. I heard it about Spurrier when we beat them. I enjoyed sticking it to Coach Superior as much as anyone, I was in the stadium for 58-3. But does anyone think Spurrier got dumber with more experience? Sometimes plays and schemes work better than others, but there's no need to start throwing people under the buss. Miles is the same coach we were praising 2 weeks ago. The program is sound and in good hands Let's go hammer Auburn. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In that DD post, Zenon didn't fall down on UK's game-winning TD. He was pushed down by the receiver. CBS didn't show anything but the wide-open receiver, but he pushed Zenon down @ the goal line, then he was wide-open. I don't want to complain about bad calls and no calls, but Tolliver was called for pushing off in the first half (and, frankly, I don't think it was), but the refs didn't call a blatant case of it.
LSU has been one of the most penalized teams in the nation the last two years (#100 in 2005, #86 last year) and remains so this season (#113 out of 119 Division I-A schools). This is something that is killing us and I do hold the coach accountable for getting control of it. Way too many personal fouls, way too many illegal blocks, and way too many offensive linemen that can't count to "hut 3".
I don't like to complain about calls either cause when I watch football, I've just accepted that the refs suck and they're going to blow some; however, since you mentioned it, I agree- it was definitely marginal for sure. red, that, above all else, seems to be the one that can be fixed....TODAY. I, too, lay that one in Miles' feet and was surprised not to see more discussion on it- if there was, I missed it- glad you brought it up. I've always held that an undisciplined team will have it's costs in close games. We're a better team than that and need to clean it up. We've been protecting the ball, we need to protect our possessions and not kill drives/or keep opponents' drives alive with bonehead penalties. We are half way through the season, we should not be having formation penalties, even with freshmen.....the other coach noticed, ours should have too. Personal fouls, breaking the huddle with too many players......C' mon coaches, you are top notch coaches- GET IT TOGETHER!
You could say this about any team dude. Last year, Stoops wasn't fooled by the Boise State trick play.....the Oklahoma defensive line was. DiNardo didn't keep his entire defense from tackling.......the entire defense was to blame for not tackling. Hallman didn't throw 22 interceptions to Auburn......Jamie Howard did. Under that kinda of horsecrap premise, no coach ever gets blamed for anything and they never get fired. But the rest of the world lives in reality and they are to blame. To be honest, Miles is to blame for the ridiculous number of penalties this team has and he's to blame for the offense having absolutely no direction at all. It's like they are throwing darts to choose the plays.....no gameplanning at all. Just running plays to see what works and when something works, they NEVER run it again.
Sounds like something Yogi Berra would say! Good points so far. I too am amazed by the lack of playing time for RP and other players who are 'hot.' I just read an article in the Times Picayune about Charles Scott. The guy was on fire in the first half, and we practically benched him in the 2nd. And as for the penalties... you're right. It starts with coaching. But again, isn't it funny that if one of these player mistakes wouldn't have happened, and if we would slipped by and won the game, we wouldn't be dissecting CLM's decisions and gameplan... Take the Florida game as proof - If we would have missed on one of those 4th down conversions at the end against UF, there would be people screaming for CLM's job, saying "Why didn't he just kick the FG to tie? What an idiot!" I even think we might have seen a thread about how we would be happy to see Miles go to Michigan. Don't believe me? Just look how long it took for a Tiger Fan to send Bo Pelini packing: http://www.tigerforums.com/tigers-den/60478-if-pelini-continues-coach-scheme.html I'm just hoping for a win this week. Auburn's no slouch, and Tuberville knows how to get his boys ready to play.
That DD reader should check his facts before spouting off, but hey, why let the details get in the way of the point he's making. And Red's right about the penalties.
