What was the question?? Seriously, that is one thing I don't understand. If the topic goes awry, who cares?? Nothing wrong with following the thread...especially in July...when there's not much to talk about. I don't get why people have such a fit about staying on topic. By the way...I think it's the ugliest necklace I have ever seen.:thumb:
Pot meet kettle. Sooooo understated. Flashing his bling, arriving in a Hummer limo, announcing his commitment on the hallowed grounds of the CFHOF. Jimmy is a junior bling man in training. :thumb: Don't laugh too hard bitter. Peyton Manning isn't the ONLY pro QB to make an appearance at USC lately. Joe Montana accompanied his son Nathaniel to a recent camp..........seems Nathaniel wants to walk on at SC. And I think that there's some validity to what ALL of you are saying. If a former Trojan showed up wearing something similar supporting nd or utla, I'd feel pretty sick. I do believe it was likely a gift and so maybe no requirement to wear it but a nice thing to do. And yes, players like JR may not qualify themselves as "rich" quite yet, but they DO have the money. The second he signed with an agent, JR like all other NFL players, are given access to hundreds of thousands of dollars by their agents and or managers. If you looked around at the top 30 players or even more from the last draft who have yet to play even one down of pro ball, I guarantee you'll see similar bling, rides, and their pick of hot women. Goes with the territory. At the least it would seem fair to give JR the benefit of the doubt and hear his side before tossing him. He didn't win over the rest of the country (outside of south bend anyway) by being boring, stupid, or untalented.
Who is Russell's agent? I recall a group out of Mobile that were offering "benefits" last summer to players around the SEC, Russell being one of the names tossed around. I believe the agent's license entered its valid stage this past fall or winter.
No idea. But to be clear I wasn't suggesting that he or any other player had signed early or accepted benefits. His Raider's contract is being negotiated, correct? Then whomever is doing that negotiating or got him his apparel deals is fronting him the cash.
I didn't think you were suggesting that, by any means. The Mobile group I mentioned started their shenanigans last summer, late spring. I heard about them right after spring camp last season. The group had been sticking their noses in...well, attempting contact with a lot of players around the SEC, not just Mobile players. As soon as they started they were addressed in a hurry. There is a pretty large agent group based out of B-ham also. I was just curious if any of the Tigers here knew who he had signed with. I suspect he was fronted some $...but, as it was pointed out earlier in this thread there is a chance a bank gave him a loan as well. It's not like he'll have a hard time repaying a loan.
Claussen was the most heralded and coveted high school QB since John Elway, and he got caught up in the excitement. He's still a young man, and college is all about learning to act like a man. After three or four years at ND, I don't think he'll do that again. To me, the mistake was publicly announcing he would win 4 NCs. Any QB who doesn't think he can win is a QB I wouldn't want. And, any QB who isn't striving to win a NC is a QB I wouldn't want either. Maybe, you guys are happy with getting into a BCS game and winning your bowl game but for over 40+ years, ND had chosen not to participate in bowl games. Instead, the emphasis was always on winning NCs as ND has won more NCs and had more All-Americans than any other program.
I love blanketed statments like these. They show how full of it people can be. Claussen has many questions surrounding him and to label him anywhere near Elway is utterly ridiculous. Well as overrated and generally mediocre as ND has been over the past five or so years maybe its about time to focus on something else. Besides, ND has never had to focus on "small things" such as BCS appearances because they are thrust upon them deserving or not. You cannot honestly tell me that yall were anywhere near the talent level of a Wisconson who would have, at the very least, given us a better game. I hate excuses, so please stop trying to justify whatever it is you are trying to justify with these lame statments like "we focus on NC's", give me a break.
