First we hear tales of impropriety dealing with Mobile grades, and now there are hints that things might have been amiss at mighty Hoover. I just wonder if it has to do with teachers being dismissed when certain players didn't make their grades? Then again, it seems as though everyone end up with passing marks; geez, how did that happen? I am sure it is just a misunderstanding.

The superintendent for Hoover City Schools said Tuesday he is investigating concerns raised by Hoover High School's athletics director, who resigned Monday and took a job with a private school in Montgomery.
Superintendent Andy Craig said Jerry Browning, Hoover's athletics director for three years, came to him with concerns about the school's athletic programs before he resigned and took a job as athletics director at Saint James School.
Craig would not elaborate on the concerns, saying he did not want to speculate on anything that has not been confirmed.

I'm hearing stories about the NCAA "assisting" in the investigation down in the Mobile area with a couple of the Auburn signees...while I don't expect anything to come from it, I'm curious as to what you are hearing in your circles.

The "They were Bama leans when the grades were changed" and the "REC is stepping up" are the most vocal.

Most of the realist see this as HS programs trying to maintain their own players eligibility. The Universities are just getting caught in the backlash.

It does hurt when you have players that you thought would be on campus suddenly are looking at alternate avenues.

I would be more worried if players started to excell on the ACT after weak HS grades. The chance that some of these kids have to qualify went way down since BYU correspondence courses aren't so readily acceptable.

    To quote an icon, "Bingo!"

The exit exams and the ACT/SAT tests to a lot to confirm exactly where these kids are academically.

What needs to be addressed is some sort of standardized testing for collegiate athletes to eliminate the grade issues you and I have seen over the last few years.

I don't think it isn't feasible to consider an exit exam for each collegiate year. At least, you'd know more than what this foolish APR system is trying to accomplish.

Where there is smoke there is fire. Teachers are coming forward raising issues. It boils down to the arrogance of Russ Propst (Head coach at Hoover U) that is finally coming to light. It started with 2 a days on MTV to get his ego up, now it will all come crashing down. Couldn't happen to a nicer &$@*head.

While I agree with your description of RP, it's the county, not Hoover in particular...and it has a lot more to do with inter-county politics...

are you refering to Spain Park and Hoover or Vestavia and Hoover? Hoover has dominated the scene since Propst arrived. There is no doubt he plays above the rules and everyone knows it. He recruits players (very illegal), which is why he has earned the ridicule of most schools in the area. Hoover is the biggest high school in the state and has the biggest football program. Strangely with all those kids, their basketball program is normally last in the region. Of course Propst will not allow his football players play basketball. All their good athletes are restricted from doing anything else.

This thing is going to get messy before it is all over. FInebaum had a field day on Friday with allegations of illegitimate kids (2 of them) and marriage infidelity. The heck with MTV.. bring on Days of our Lives!!!!

The heat RP feels isn't from his recruiting style, it's from his attitude. He's a prick, no doubt.

True that. Lot of Bama fans were hoping Probst would be part of the new coaching staff at Bama, sure glad that didn't happen.

Same crowd that said Shula should be given another year...let me say, I'm glad that didn't happen. We've had this discussion....
