I like the idea but I dont think it would happen. This writer proposes that the conferences agree to hold open the season opener for a 2 year home-and-home deal. The teams going against each other would be determined from the previous years record with the best playing the best and the worst playing the worst. This would be for a 12 teams. Based on the records last year, LSU would go against @ Texas in the 1st year, UF @ Oklahoma, Nebraska @ Arkansas, Texas A&M @ Auburn, Tenn @ Mizzou, Texas Tech @ UGA, UK @ Kansas St., Okla St. @ USC, Bama @ Kansas, etc... Check out the article, it discusses the feasibility problems and the pros and cons, etc.. http://www.dawgsports.com/story/2007/4/23/234851/614
We finally got our rec. league to stop doing that in the draft.....team that finishes first picks last the following year, and so on. Problem is, the team that finished first one year, MOST often lost the bulk of their players and was the weakest the next. As far as this proposal, it wouldn't be the case with LSU this year; however, in many instances it surely would.......for that reason, I don't like it but would LOVE to play Texas.
I love the thought based on the games we shared with OU several years ago. I love the thought of playing an aTm team under their coach. Is this guy saying the teams change year in and year out? So, for instance, LSU faces Tx. this year but it may play another team next year? Also, if you had a team win the conference two years in a row, and he has the home field advantage based on last years rankings, seems to me some teams would be at home a few years in a row, and some, on the road. A lot of if's...a neutral field with a 50/50 revenue split would seem more in tune to success. But, both conferences have teams that don't travel well.
It is my understanding that it would be all 12 teams playing each other in a home and away series. I am not sure how they pick who gets the 1st home game. I would guess it would be the same team for 2 years and then they would do they rank matches again after the home and away series. Doesnt sound like they could really keep this going over and aver because some teams would play each others 4 years straight. I have no idea about the revenue splitting stuff.:thumb:
Hmm, a 24 year set-up. I can see it, the schools agree, then the SEC offices and the Big 12 offices fight. After that, it takes a year or two for the networks to decide who broadcasts it. It took quite awhile for the ACC and SEC to agree on Bama vs FSU this year, and then awhile for ABC/ESPN vs CBS to decide. Consider this. A Baylor vs Vandy match-up. Over/Under on how many empty seats in Nashville?
Not to state the odvious, but it would be a 2 year agreement. All 12 SEC teams would play all 12 Big 12 teams in the same year....... :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
that is something i would mind seeing. being in little dozen country, it would definitely give me more opportunity to see sec teams.:thumb:
I would LOVE this arrangement. I've been dying for the A & M season opener to come back since the year it went away.
There has been a push to get TTU to move it's tamu game to Dallas. Don't like that idea at all, I want to keep conference games home and home. But if you could get an SEC\X12 match up going in some cities with a neutral site, it could be like Texas\OU in the Cotton Bowl; Dallas-Jerry Jones new stadium San Antonio Houston Kansas City B'Ham Nashville Orlando Atlanta
This is a great idea. It would be awesome to beat up on some big 12 teams so I could talk $hit to all these A&M/UT/TT/OU fans that think their conf is on the same level as the SEC.
