Let me come to Herbie's defense. I know he's a luckeye homer and in all fairness when he made the comment about SC, he'd been on the air for probably over 12 hours.....maybe he was just delirious. I know he's not a favorite and yet he is knowledgeable about the game.......let's face it if you had to pick between Herbie and Lou Holtz...........nevermind. :hihi:

Besides, I saw Herbie close up in person 2x last year and he is quite the hottie. :thumb:

Every year?? Definitely not; however, understanding how difficult it is to accomplish that, I will be disapointed if we don't next year- not that the season will be a disappointement if we go to a BCS bowl, win, etc. Even though I'll be happy with what we do accomplish, I want a National Championship next year cause: 1/ We have the talent 2/ The schedule favors it.

Now, having said that, I realize winning a NC with a talented but inexperienced QB is setting the bar high but I believe it's definitely within reach because he'll have a lot of help with the weapons at his disposal on the offensive side and, on the defensive side, he won't have to put up record numbers. Could be wrong, but that's my general feeling right now.

All I expect is that we win the SEC West and are in the SECCG. The rest is politics and who is the media darling.

The bar has been raised since the 90's!!!!!!!

Actually, the little ol' political map test I took on the internet (which just oozes authenticity) sez I'm just to the right of centrist. So I guess to me, you're a bleeding liberal, and to you, I'm a nazi. :)

I apoligize ahead of time ucsvball cause it's really not what you just said just a snipit of a sentence which you said which reminds me of what I get sick of hearing from those outside the SEC. Why is it that people always are trying to talk down the SEC by saying we never play anybody outside of our conference?

Even if this was true, I still would say our conference schedule is year end and year out is proof enough if we can escape with 1 or less losses that we deserve to be in the title mix. It's not true though, as in the past 5 years SEC teams have played the likes of USC, w. virginia, VTech, Notre Dame, Louisville, etc.

The problem usually lies with the fact that powerehouse conference teams, have trouble scheduling us a home and-a-way that fits in with their already tight conference schedules as well as allowing for our championship game.

Hopefully after the situation with Florida this year everybody can relax and shut up about hating on the the SEC schedules and not worry about the fact that just because for instance Florida played a div. 2 team has no bearing on if they can hang in the championship.

No apology necessary. And I'm NOT the right person to answer your question as rhetorical as it might have been. It's a dogfight, requires way more knowledge then I have and am willing to research, and ultimately it always seems to dissolve into either a personal attack on lifestyles or just no common ground. Basically, I see it as a no win situation so I avoid it.

My best guess based on reading other forums/chats is that outside the SEC, fans are also tired of hearing the "we don't need to play OOC because we have the toughest conference already", attempts at scheduling home and aways (which you alluded to) have been unsuccessful despite the willingness of other schools, some of the OOC games have been AA schools, OOC road games are infrequent.

Don't hate the messenger here. As frustrating as it is for you, likewise fans in other conferences are tired of hearing about the hits their own conferences take. Sort of like hearing the Big 10 Comish take academic potshots at the SEC, hearing that the Pac10 is just a passing conference, or hearing the likes of utla and nd claim their superior academic standards are what's keeping them from being competitive.

Part of my earlier point was that other coaches outside the SEC are becoming more effective at recruiting the South. As that happens, the SEC may become less successful since the majority of players stay close to home.
