FULL STORY: Ranking The SEC Coaches

So this writer ranks Saban the #1 coach in the SEC (think for a second about all the coaches in the SEC) and he hasn't even played a single down with a new program and hasn't been in the league for the past couple of years... Did this guy think this through?

Les Miles at 10?! He's the 3rd WORST coach in the SEC according to this guy! 22-4, played in an SECCG his first year (Katrina year), dominated a top 10 team in the peach bowl, then got 10 wins out of a brutal road schedule to get us into a BCS bowl and go on to dominate Notre Dame. I'm not really pissed, I'm getting used to other people's lack of respect for Miles but this is over the top for someone who writes for a "name brand" publication. And Saban #1 and not a second has ticked off any game clocks!

If you take off the LSU glasses and look at Saban's body of work, well... it's just mediocre. Everyone uses the LSU title as some sort of Saban benchmark but he hasn't shown too much more. I give him his due for digging us out of our slump but Alabama is simply in a different situation than we were after DiNardo. I don't mean for this to turn into a "Saban" thread. I actually find it amusing how so much of the media and many rival fans dismiss Miles and have so little respect for him. He's not some dickhead to the media, or lies about things, he's not as polished as an Urban Meyer, or as polarizing as a Fulmer or Spurrier. He's just plain old Coach Miles, an intense and passionate coach who his quietly going about his business of kicking ass and taking names all while wearing the coolest damn cap I've ever seen! :yelwink2:

It'll take time but they'll learn. We'll have to MAKE some of them learn.

"Alabama Light?" This guy should have his press pass and all-you-can-eat buffet privileges revoked.

I think it's funny that the writer was saying last year was our only shot at a national title under Miles. Funny, I never really considered us to ever be in contention last year. Now this year is a different story...but frankly, with the talent we have coming in, I think Miles definitely has all the cards in place for a title run.

"Alabama Light", though? WTF is up with that?

We were a hapless program when Saban took over. Bad tudes, bad record, bad recruiting. Saban turned all that around. His body of work at LSU was stunning to most observers considering what he started with.

That aside, this list is a complete and utter joke.

I will grant Saban a bit more than some, you did have an excellent run of SECW champs. The fact that there was a co champ in 2001 and 2005 (don't start hating, if you won head to head on the field, I don't think there is any such thing as a co champ) shows that there wasn't total dominance, at least not the type that the hype suggest.

$atan is just the darlin' de jour.

The Alabama Light? I think it was suppose to read:

Well, if Saban won it all at LSU -- which is why I like to call out "Alabama Saw the Light and is trying to copy LSU" -- he can't do it in T-town, because he and Terry will soon find out, it is not even close to being Baton Rouge.

As far as Miles goes, his product on the field has to have him at or near the top of the list. The Katrina season was one of the great coaching jobs of all time. It took a real coach just to hold it together, it took a leader to excel like LSU did that year, and you haven't taken a step backward. (I still disagree with his use of your running backs:wink: )

I agree and I'm glad you put Miles on that list cause his back to back 11 win seasons in his first two years puts him at least in the mix with Saban in my book- consistency......I know he started with a better team- not that Saban's first year team was without talent- but he never had back to back 11win seasons. As a matter of fact, only had one season with 11+ wins. Not that a 9 and/or 10 win season in the SEC is poor, jus sayin.

Saban actually had a lot of talent on the team he inherited. :thumb:

I think Saban's recruiting is quite overrated. He had a sensational recruiting class in 2003 (happened to produce multiple first round talents) and the others were just good.

Saban's a very good coach. I don't care for his style nor some of his character flaws, but I really like his aggressiveness, persisitence, and perfection attitude towards things.
