I echo the Vandy sentiment. I always pull for them. I like to see the smart boys shake things up in The Conference.
Auburn?!?! One of the first games I saw in Tiger Stadium the entire team lit up cigars, on the field, after they won. The next time they came (My first year as a student) they danced on the eye pre game, refused to leave the field during half time for our band, and pushed a few band members as they came off the field. I admit the posters here are class, and I have never gone to a game at Auburn so I can't speak about my experiences there, but those incidents will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. I guess people are talking about two different things. The teams I respect, ie the teams I worry about playing? UF and AU. Teams I respect because I enjoy the games, and have good experiences at them? Georgia. AU and UF fall to the bottom of this category.
Now, to clarify my position with all of this going on: I have been to Auburn twice. Both times, complete strangers invited us to partake of their tailgate bounty. Granted, it wasn't an LSU tailgate by a mile, but the drinks were cold, the dogs were hot, and the company was fantastic, both before and after the game- both of which were epic battles that will go down in the lore of college football, IMHO. Now, I know that their student section has a bowel problem, and I know that CTT can be a pain, but I respect that program more every day (the CNS situation doesn't help things ). As for Terry, as much crap as he takes from us I wouldn't fault him for coming after some of us with a 12 gauge. But day after day he remains a class act and among the top 5 best posters on this board, and that has to say SOMETHING for the legendary Bama program.
I agree as well. Auburn makes us and better and vice versa. All the 'incidents' we've had with them actually have made the rivalry more intense and has catapulted the annual showdown into Top 5 spotlight game each season.
As much as I dislike Auburn, I have to have grudging respect for them. Our football programs have been too closely matched. It's a strange matchup. Since 1902, we've only played them about 38 times, and the series is very close: we lead it 21-16-1, although to be fair, many of our wins against them are old. In the last 10 years, I think the series is either tied or they hold a one game lead on us. That's a history for you. Not to mention, I like the fact that we routinely beat them at Death Valley, and they routinely beat us at Jordan Hare, although they've won at Death Valley more recently than we've won at Jordan Hare. I also have respect for Vanderbilt. They seem to get a little better every year, and they do their part in bringing up the SEC's average gpa.
The best way to beat your opponenet is to first respect them. Know their strengths and weaknesses. So based on that, I respect everyone in the SEC. It seems like the big rivals games are the one I look forward to the most.... :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
