ESPN just aired a draft segment on NFL Live and Merill Hodge said he has spent the last month at home reviewing film of prospects in this years draft. He said there is no comparison between JR and Quinn(we knew that already), that Jamarcus is a QB that comes around every 7-10 years while you can pick up a Quinn any year. He also said that if Oakland drafts Quinn it will set the franchise back 5-7 years. Was pretty high praise of JR by Hodge and was good to see.
All the talking heads at ESPN are pretty much in agreement that JR would be the better pick. The only one I have seen doubt that is Skip on Cold Pizza, which does not surprise me at all.
Praise from Hodge isn't such a good thing. He was the clown last year who insisted Vince Young would be a complete failure as an NFL QB.
He was also one of the lone ppl proclaiming Mike Williams will be a bust when everybody especially Kiper was drooling over the kid. And for VY let's wait another 2 more years to get an accurate depiction of that dude at QB. M. Vick was the best thing since slide bread his first year as a starter, now his 15 minutes are up
Statistically, VY was a failure... Next year, teams will have film on him and game plan for him. He will go down the same road as Vick, only slower.
I agree with your assessment on Young. His fate will most certainly be determined should he have trust in the Titans offensive system. Vick still thinks he is in college. He takes off and runs with the ball at the drop of a hat. If Vince Young can continue to show improvement as a passer, know his offensive system, and rely on his athletic ability when he has to, he will be a fine NFL QB. A better Randall Cunningham if you will. I find he compares very favorably to him.
Statistics are for losers. A. Brooks used to put up these good, misleading stats when he was with the Saints and other people thought he was great every year. He used boost those stats when teams had their 7th string players in because they were stomping the Saints. Brooks didn't put up the good numbers when it counted on 3rd down and in close games. If you looked at his stats many times, you would think he was a big winner. He wasn't...and look how he did with the Raiders. Vince Young on the other hand was a winner this year. The only stats that really matter are in the W and L column. He was 8-5 as a starter. That team finished 4-12 last year. He helped double their win total and he didn't even start every game. They even almost made the playoffs. Let's not forget that he shattered the NFL rookie rushing record for a QB that was over like 35 years old. The dude averaged well over 6 yds a rush (even with the sacks)! He led the Titans to their biggest 4th quarter comeback ever(also the biggest 4th quarter comeback from a rookie QB ever and I think the biggest comeback with under 10 minutes in NFL history). He had the best record of any of the 1st year QBs as well. And then he won rookie of the year on top of that. If that is statistically being a failure, I don't know what the hell successful is... Nobody cares about interceptions or completion percentage as long as you do other things that make up for them. VY certainly does. I don't know what he's going to do in the future, but he far exceeded almost everyone's expectations of how he would do this year and made a complete ass out of most people's predictions. He was a MAJOR success this year. Period.
Excellent in depth analysis:rofl: . Man, if my nintendo was still working, I'd be all over that game. Or, you remember the one for atari? The little blue and red dots. Classic!!!
