Glenn Guilbeau's latest blog post: http://bayoubengalsblog.blogspot.com/2007/03/hire-starkey-and-dont-look-back.html I don't agree with absolutely everything he says, but I agree with the main points. Get Bob a recruiter or two and just keep marching on.
a great idea, but i think starkey is happy doing what he's doing. but starkey is great. he used to pop in and instruct a "coaching basketball" class i had at LSU back in the day. all around great guy and smart coach.
Starkey has long said he doesn't want to be a head coach. He had opportunities over the years and said no to all of them. Maybe this experience will change his mind. Secondly, is a college degree required to be a head coach at LSU? Can't recall a head coach not having one. If that's a qualification, then Starkey can't be HC.
He doesn't seem to want to be a head coach. But the next head coach should hire him . . . and pay him more.
I had posted this in the game thread but he'd be a cheap hire. Apparently he not only knows the X's and O's but is managing the game and team extremely well when you look at what he's brought them through. My understanding is that he has NO interest in the head coaching position but after actually being one, he may change his mind and especially if we bring it all home to Baton Rouge. :thumb:
I think from an equality stand point, having white males as head coach of LSU's top four sports may cause some discontent.
What if they're all qualified? I don't think anyone would argue with hiring Starkey who just got us in the Final Four amongst the Pokey Chatman chaos just because he is white...seriously. We should be progressing towards an equal, colorblind society and not hiring people on the basis of skin color but on talent.
Sometime during the broadcast on ESPN last night one of the people said Starkey said he didn't want to be full time HC.
I hear ya. I'm colorblind. I've got it so bad that the other day I called this black guy "White Trash".
