Where Were You When Warren Morris Fired The Shot Heard 'Round The World?

Since the Billy Cannon run back seemed to be a decent thread yet way before many of you young whippersnappers came along, where were you when Warren Morris hit the shot heard 'round the world.

I was in beautiful (joke) downtown Mansfleld, LA at a family reunion. It USED to be every year at the family reunion we watched LSU in the CWS, sadly not anymore and come to think of it the reunions ain't what they used to be since we ain't ever in the CWS...........

At any rate, my younger cousin who would commit any crime imaginable in defense of LSU, some other relatives who are not quite as addicted as the cousin, my brother and I are, were sitting there watching a small screen TV in a motel room when it happened. We almost broke those cheap cinder block walls down in that cheap Indian motel. I think someone called the cops as a cruiser came by in a few minutes driving real slow and gawking.

Once again, one of those events I well remember where I was exactly when it happened.

 

It was the day of my 40th birthday June 8, 1996. My son and I were watching the game. With 2 outs and a man on 3rd, I thought they were not going to make it. I got up, went outside and the minute I walked through the door, my son started screaming "Home run ... We won". I raced back in and saw Warren Morris rounding the bases and that Miami shortstop face down on the ground. What a day.

I was in my office (Memphis - where else) working on a commercial project. I watched the game on a small portable TV I had at the time.
I almost spilled coffee on all the paperwork I had been working on.
Great game, great LSU moment.

Watching that youtube video. The last College World series win (2000) with Cresse getting the base hit and his dad going bananas in the stands still brings a tear to my eye.

 

I had just moved to MS, and was trying to find a hill tall enough to allow clear reception to WWL 870. I heard Hawthorne screaming, and was pretty much able to make out what he was saying. I knew it was good, something special.
