Exactly Look at two of the college ranking services, Scout and Rivals. Not a ton of difference but look at what happens to player's ratings before and after they play both the AAA game (Scout sponsored) and the Offense/Defense Game (Rivals sponsored). Depending on performance, a player's rating gets adjusted. Example? Broderick Green. He was considered a 5 star prior to the AAA game (not saying that's accurate by the way) , got only one carry and summarily dropped to a 4 star and he was kinda' pissed. Player's rankings can also be upgraded merely based on who is recruiting them, not just on talent. Another example is Aaron Corp. He was off the radar in Cali until SC showed some interest. He got bumped up and helped lead his team to the CA state championship in their division. Since then, he received top honors at the Rival's game and has been named by several sponsors as the CA player of the year. What should he be ranked? I have no idea. Geaux Tigers.
I can understand why South Carolina with Spurrier might be a draw, but what's so great about Tennessee or South Carolina for that????? :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
vball makes a good point. If you look at those two sites, and look at LSU & ND they have them flip-flopped. On scout, LSU is #3 w/ 2-5's, 16-4's, 4-3's & 2-2's while ND is #5 w/ 2-5's, 13-4's, & 4-3's. With the same players on rivals, ND is #3 w/ 1-5, 14-4's, & 4-3's while LSU is #5 w/ 0-5's, 16-4's, 7-3's, & 1-2 star. I will say this, the majority of ND's higher ranked athletes do come from the south (GA, FL, TN, and California if you consider that south). What has made the SEC tough is the fact that they have been able to keep the majority of the talent home in this area. That is especially true for LSU and their success in this decade. Once they were able to stop the talent from going out of state in droves, things really picked up in Baton Rouge.
I personally don't consider California the south, and I doubt uscvball does either. Didn't you see "Days of Thunder"?:thumb:
That's why I'm always reluctant to lump them in w/ the south, Fishhead. The thing is, I don't think the north wants to claim them either.
Add in that there are four current head coaches who have won national titles and that in the last two and a half decades, four different SEC teams have won 5 MNCs. Not too bad. I'm sure our PAC 1 +9 friends will find some way to spin this in the direction of our weak OOC schedule.
I sincerely believe when most people think of North and South, they think of the Division during the Civil War. So none of the Pacific and Mountain time zone states really get considered for North or South in general terms. Even though in reality they are. How far West does the Mason/Dixon Line go? By the way, I'm glad I ventured to this site. Much better than TigerRag IMO. I really love the state of LA, my mother grew up in the Lake Charles area (Oberlin) and I have spent at least a year of my life in LA on summer vacations. LSU is my #2 team even though I was born and raised in Chattanooga, and now I am a HS teacher in NE TN (utk country). My dad is from AL.
Not very far. It's basically just the Western border of Delaware, and the Southern Border of Pennsylvannia. Only about 233 miles long.
