"Meyer's offense" did fail in the SEC. He changed it after the LSU loss last year.

I might be wrong but I think Meyers didn't have the personnel for "His" offense and with Leak leaving he may now. Not sure but thought that to be the case.

The only change he made was not running Leak so much. He tweaked his offense, not changed it entirely.

I'll take that kind of failure all day long.

Look for a big dropoff after losing Ryan Smith, who had to be the biggest pickup last year ever. Dude had an unbelievable nose for the ball.

Great Hire from what I have gathered... Now I can hibernate for the winter.

I bet every team in the SEC has lower offense numbers against SEC defenses. Our numbers dropped from 33 to 27 ppg. They dropped from 29 to 24.

but really, i think this is a great hire in the long run but it may take some time to install this offense especially if it's complicated. most players esp. the qb's will be starting from scratch. i don't think it'll be fireworks right off but given some time for growing pains, this could be a thing of beauty. but let's not assume 40.0 ppg just yet.
but as someone who's criticized miles in the past, i think this is an excellent hire!!:thumb:

He will be tested early. We get a pretty good VT defense the second week in September (if they finally show up). Is it Fall yet?!? :po:

I either read this in the advocate or saw it on a news clip, but what you missed was the most important part of the quote. He is referring to yardage not plays from scrimmage. He went on to say that he wanted balance play calling.

What allows an offensive to really wing the ball is a strong run attack. If the secondary has to play man all day because the running game is dangerous it opens up a lot you can do with the offense. If the new OC is all everyone says he is, look for a balance between run and pass plays with 2/3 of the yardage to come from throwing.

Should be a hell of season with the home schedule we have, if we can keep Pelini.

I think the hiring of Crowton was great. This guy has been around and has a ton of experience. I still have fond memories of him while he was coaching at La Tech and beating Alabama. Also, putting up a tough fight against Nebraska. He definitely knows the offensive side of the ball and I think he will help the Tigers offense succeed in the upcoming years. Would have loved to seen Russell under him for a year..... Looking forward to next season...
