pharpe oh Tiger Brother, I hear your roar in Purple & Gold Splendor. It reaches my Tiger soul that was born that wonderful Saturday night in the Fall of 1971. In Port Arthur, Texas I heard of a football game to be played on television between Notre Dame and Louisiana State. The Irish had not been scored on in over 20 quarters and held the nations #1 defense. What I witnessed at 15 years of age was the birth of my Tiger Soul. The crazy fans, Mike the Tiger circling the field, the excitement of each touchdown scored. I witnessed this Tiger Nation under the glowing Saturday night lights beat the Irish and legendary coach Ara Parseghian soundly 28 to 8. Our Tigers scored in every quarter of play against this great Notre Dame defense. The sports announcers proclaimed it the best college game they had ever witnessed. They proclaimed that Louisiana Cajuns had traved by car, foot, bus and Pirogue to cheer their Bayou Bengals and watch Tommy Casanova and Bert Jones. In just 2 months from that date a new history teacher arrived at my high school. He proclaimed he was a new graduate of LSU and a Purple & Gold Tiger. I asked him about the game and his eyes burned as bright as those lights at Tiger Stadium recounting that specal night. I knew then I was a Tiger for life. So yes, we all have our moment in time when we became LSU Tigers. There can never be anything better then LSU on a Fall Friday night. I feel the force! Geaux tigers!!!
It took you 15 years? My parents had me brainwashed 15 minutes in, my dad sung me the fight song as he walked me through the hospital.
