LINK TO AUDIO Checkout this segment from Colin Cowherd's radio show on Monday. It all starts at about 5:11 on the recording. So just listen from 5:11 to about 7:45, if you don't feel like listening to the whole segment. I know this really isn't news for any of us here but hey, it feels good to have your feelings confirmed. Just imagine what it would be like if the SEC had it's exclusive deal with ABC instead of CBS. Someone needs to get in the game and compete with ESPN, and no Fox Sports Net is not real competition. It's amazing to me that NBC, CBS, and Fox just allow Disney/ABC to have such a monopoly in this area. Somehow we've come to accept that sports journalism doesn't have to be encumbered by the same journalistic ethics that major respected news outlets at least attempt to comply with (your view may vary here). This is exactly why CFB can't continue without a playoff, it is too heavily influenced by things that have nothing to do with what's happening on the gridiron.
I know many of yall dont like Kirk, but when he goes on radio he is very fair and knowledgable about football and its history. I think some people need to realize a lot of ESPN's Gameday comments are scripted...doesnt mean I dont think Fowler is a tool.
Tuberville was crucified in the media for making similar statements in '05 To me, it's simple ...... 1) CFB is the only major sport that uses opinion polls to determine its champ 2) Big Media is in the business of influencing public opinion in the name of profits 3) ESPN has a financial bias to skew opinion polls in order to increase advertising revenues with the conferences in its stable 4) The University Presidents, the media, the BCS, and the Bowl System will collectively ruin CFB by destroying its right to tax-exempt status unless actions are taken to reform the sport 5) CFB fans cannot be counted on to fix the problem because their only allegiance is to their individual team 6) the folks listed in #4 are acutely aware of #5 which is why they will not voluntarily change
On Gameday last night after the NC game, Fowler asked Herbie and, I think it was Desmond Howard sitting in for a sick Corso, to pick their top five for next year. Both picked LSU #2. Herbs had USC #1, the other had Florida #1. The also put Corso's picks on the screen and he scored the top two like Herbstreit. So LSU was a unanimous #2 across the board - that's knowing JR and JF would be gone. LSU is getting some major props.
Sports journalism is not the same as hard news journalism. It is more akin to news commentators and editorials. The ethics are a little different. As such, they are not required to be balanced. Of course, the sports journalists should be knowledgable and professional. But because they often deal in opinion and rumor, they are not required to be balanced.
did they mention the favorable schedule or they just think lsu is that good? ps. favorable, but i do not like having a great defensive team in VaTech so early in the season. could ruin a championship
No. KH mentioned that he put LSU #2 ahead of #3 Florida because the game is in Baton Rouge. Otherwise, no mention of strength of schedules.
