I know our baseball program has been down the last few years, but please Mainieri...never ever compare us to Notre Dame in any way.
I forgot to put the source and for some reason I couldn't edit the post Source: ND Rivals board http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=617083
Never! Their tradition is derived from a history of having a dominant program back when there was no mass media and people read about their "exploits" in newspapers delivered by Pony Express weeks after their game against Fordham or NYU or some other Eastern "power" of the day. Once everybody else got into the act, ND was just another school that played football, but the media wouldn't let their tradition die. That's all it is. History with no present relevance.
Just a different angle....... I read it to mean as much as he was loyal to ND, he made the right choice and is glad. The fact that he is having a hard time means his loyalty is sincere and now that LSU is winning his heart's loyalty means he will be true blue to us. If he was able to "Turn off" a switch that easily, I would be more concerned about his sincerity to our program. Sounded to me like he's meaning this as LSU being a step up (As it surely is) but I do see the error in his thinking here. I guess living in the midst of it he may have been a little brainwashed as far as the reality of the ND football program......we'll help him take a step back to reality after the Sugar bowl. I hope everyone gives him a chance, he is in transition and it sounds like he's heading in the right direction!! :thumb:
Anyone see him on the local cable show "LSU Sports Journal" with Jordie the other day? He was begging fans to not let their season tickets go to waste. He was saying "We have a great venue in Alex Box Stadium" and he's ashamed that people didn't show up last year. That says something, to me. He knows what he has to do to succeed here- win national titles -> butts in seats (see smoke laval's career). By the way, we haven't seen one inning coached by this man, and already we're criticizing him for his comments? Please, could we be any more delusional?
I took his comments as a compliment to the LSU baseball program. Some of you need to have a beer, or two.
I agree that people are taking this way out of proportion. Some of you really need to come to grips with the fact that the legacy of Notre Dame football will always be a big part of college football. Let it go.
My feelings exactly...plus, the college football hall of fame is in south bend for a particular reason...and the overrated media darlings isnt the right one.
The guy was there for many years, give him a break. We would expect the same if a coach left here and went somewhere else.
