Interesting commentary on the poll numbers as well. Jives with islstl's analysis, but would like his read on these numbers. More through link: http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-27/116512815763000.xml&coll=1
How did the TP editors not see the 2 losses they listed for Florida? Come on now, get it together. That's kind of a big mistake.
They also said this: "If the Gators are within nine points in the coaches' poll and 37 in the Harris rankings, they will gain the berth in the title game and LSU will meet Notre Dame in the Allstate Sugar Bowl." That is really an absurd statement to make, unless they broke into the computer systems and figured Florida would win 3 of the 4 computer polls over Michigan for 2nd place. That's great detective work if they did. But they didn't. Florida's best hope is probably a 2-2 split in the computer polls, and they actually stand a better chance at losing 3-1 to Michigan, which definitely dooms any chance.
I so hope you right on this. The ESPN guys are lobbying hard for Florida in the MNC. For once they are supporting the SEC and I can't get behind them.
So, are you guys saying that the TP sucked on this one? That's great. I better send a note to Ted Lewis.
I just crunched the numbers, and if Florida does win 3 of 4 computer polls over Michigan, then they have to gain about 10 points in both the Coaches and Harris polls to get even with Michigan in the BCS. That would leave about a 30 and 76 point deficit, respectively. Have no idea where the 9 and 37 point deficit comes from.
