Pete Carroll should be fired for a 10-2 season with all that TALENT

Do you think Or. State or UCLA had more talent on the field than USC? Talk about not playing to your strengths. These were teams USC should have easily beaten but didn't. I'm not hearing any Bama-style rumblings about coaching changes from L.A. just yet, but I could be proven wrong.

You could certainly make the case that bad play-calling was responsible for the AU loss, but no matter how well-coached players are, it's up to them to make the play. Do you think if Pete Carroll were coaching LSU that our RBs could have shredded the competition with such a young/inexperienced OL, especially after Will Arnold got hurt?

JR throws to the end zone, LSU pulls out a 10-7 win. No muffed punts/kickoff returns in the UF game, LSU maybe beats Florida. We'll never know. That's why playing on the road in the SEC is so difficult. Somehow I doubt that if LSU had "just got beat" as you put it, that a lot of the anti-Miles people would be satisfied, because the perception would still be that LSU still didn't use their reservoir of talent to their full potential. Just because you have the most talented team doesn't guarantee a victory in any sport at any level. Sometimes there are circumstances out of a team's control (hurricanes last year, horrendous road schedule this year).

Maybe time will prove all the anti-Miles people right in a couple of years, all the doom and gloom may in fact come to pass, and I'll be eating crow. Two years in with back-to-back 10-win seasons is just too soon to tell, IMO, whether Miles will keep this program at the top of the college fb food chain. But I will agree that Miles will justifiably be in the hot seat next year if LSU doesn't at least get to Atlanta.

    Nope. You are dead wrong.

If the players are not well coached (as you said), and it costs us a game (as you said), then it is totally reasonable that said coach is criticized. It's illogical to think otherwise. You come across as a real emotional thinker.

You can spin it. You can point out the positives for this year (there are obviously many). But, there are things that Miles has done this year that have held this team back. That's where much of his criticism lies.

Upsets happen in football. I can accept them. What I can not accept is a coach who doesn't play to his teams strengths and who sits his best RB for much of the season when your running game is your obvious weakness.

Just to add to this discussion, everyone I know who criticizes Miles does so because of his continued conservative gameplan with the QB and WRs that this team has.

Not a single one of them has said that 10-2 is unacceptable. It's the difference between the Tennessee loss last year and the Georgia loss. One was a situation when coaching lost us the game. The other was a situation when we were just beat.

What he said, your point is still not very good.
Pete Carroll equals a track record Les Miles doesn't have one.
I think you are the biggest idiot at tigerforums!

There's a distinction between a flawed game plan and not teaching your players how to play well at their positions. Hey, I could make the argument that if anyone should be replaced, it's Brad Peveto, given the admittedly horrible special-teams play. On the other hand, you can't seem to accept that bad plays do happen in football games, and when they do, you seem to think it's all the coaches' fault. What crystal ball did you have at the start of the season that told you Keiland Williams would be our breakout RB? I'm sure the coaching staff would love to have that kind of tool at their disposal duing spring practice.

I also don't understand how you can logically make a distinction between "getting beat" and "beating yourself" when it comes to coaching ability when you have top-tier players. In either situation, such a team doesn't play to their potential so, by your logic, the coaches are solely to blame. If LSU got blown out by AU and UF by 30 or 40 points, we'd hear even more complaints about Miles ruining LSU's talent.

By no means do I claim that Miles is above criticism and walks on water, because Saban wasn't and didn't, either. FYI, I have closely followed every LSU game this season, and I have shared in every frustration that you have. If underachievement becomes a persisent problem in the coming years, I would have to agree with you. My fear is, now that LSU fans have gotten a taste of what it's like to be at the top of the mountain, they're becoming like Bama and Florida fans, where regular NCs are expected and will accept nothing less. If you don't believe me, look at old ESPN articles detailing how Urban Meyer talked to his players about how UF is entitled to a NC-caliber program. The way the SEC is shaping up, with Arkansas becoming a major player, and S. Carolina on the rise once Spurrier is able to recruit some talent, competing for the NC every year is simply an unrealistic and unreasonable goal.

Part of my point is that Miles hasn't been around long enough to establish a real track record. 21-4 overall for an SEC team is pretty darn good by anyone's standard, but he needs to show he can do it year in and year out against tough teams. Take a deep breath and read all my posts in this thread.
