So where is LSU headed for their bowl game? It looks like, to me, that LSU will be fourth in the SEC (no matter if they win/lose at Arkansas due to head-to-head tiebreakers against Auburn/Tennessee) So where does that put LSU? In one of three bowls: 1. AT&T Cotton Bowl This would pitch LSU against the #2 choice Big XII team...which could be Oklahoma, Texas, or Nebraska depending on: a) the outcome of the Texas/Texas A&M game and b) the championship game. 2. Chick-fil-a Bowl Though the bowl was great for LSU and media coverage last year, this year it would be a snore (against #2 choice from ACC). Likely opponents for this game would include Wake Forest, Maryland, Boston College, and Georgia Tech. 3. Outback Bowl This game would also likely end up with LSU running over its opponent, a Big Ten #3 choice. Like opponents include Penn State or Purdue. So what's likely to happen? LSU in the Cotton Bowl would be great...but so would Auburn in the Cotton Bowl. What's likely to happen? Cotton Bowl: Auburn vs. Oklahoma Chick-fil-a Bowl: Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech (if they lose the championship game)...Wake Forest if GT wins Outback Bowl: LSU vs. Penn State (side note: no I don't want this to happen for personal reasons...in fact, I know we will probably be beaten into the ground....but would you rather play Purdue or a crappy ACC team?) Reasoning: Auburn is #3, ACC teams are crappy this year and should be paired with a mediocre SEC team for a better matchup, and, well, that leaves the SEC and Big Ten stuck between a rock and a hard place.
with les miles as our head coach i'm thinking we'll get a rematch with florida in sugar if we don't make the bcs championship game...
Depends on what happens in the SECCG. A Florida loss would put them in the Cap One Bowl. The Outback may lean to Auburn since they are closer. That would probably put us in the Cotton. A Florida win in the SECCG may make things more interesting if we beat Ark. The Cap One Bowl screwed us last year, so they may take us this year. Still have an outside shot at the Sugar, but it would require Florida going to the BCSNC game.
I highly doubt that the Sugar Bowl committee will allow a match between two SEC teams, though it would bring a lot of ratings If LSU somehow grabs a bcs at large bid even though they are 4th in the conference, it would probably send you to the Orange Bowl against some crappy ACC team.
We'll be 4th in the conference, but possibly top 5 or 6 in the nation. So, an at large bid is not out of the question. I think it would require Fla to be in the title game however.
what does 4th in the conference have to do with a BCS at large bid? Auburn losing to Georgia will keep them out of an at large. We beat Arky, then Fla beats them we are the easy pick as an at large given we will be ranked in the top 5 or 6 and bring fans (which equals $$$$$$$). LSU vs ND in the Sugar - sounds good to me.
According to Glenn Guilbeau, Orange Bowl officials contacted Bertman this week, and said they were very interested but we needed to beat Ark. Not sure if this holds true after the nail biter we went through last night, but beating Ark, and them losing to Florida surely puts us as the second highest ranked SEC team. LSU just needs to take care of business and let the chips fall. I think looking forward to any game but the one before us could spell disaster. Ark won't let us come back the way Ole Miss did. Thay play the way we all know they can, and it will be one fantastic day for me. Going to the game with a bunch of Ark alums, and I can tell you that all of them think it will be a cake walk. Not really even worried about it. All they are talking about is the SECG, beating Florida, and making it to the NCG. This is our chance to really put the smack down on them. Hope I see some of you guys in the stands sporting your Purple & Gold, cause it will give those hog boys a case of the mudbutt! Geaux Tigers!! :helmet:
I can tell you that Orange Bowl, Capital One Bowl, Outback Bowl, and Peach Bowl people were all in the press box last night giving out free things to the writers
If we play in a BCS bowl, I don't care who the opponent is. The exposure will be worth it. But LSU vs. ND would be nice in OB.
