You don't think we had many seasons in which the home schedule was similar? Zona was coming off an 11-1 season when we scheduled them and has ended up being a pretty good team. UK is going bowling. Bama lost to Arkansas in Fayetteville because their kicker tried to kick with his eyes closed or had a side bet on the game. And we destroyed every one of them save for the Rebs. I'd say it was a pretty impressive home season.
You sound like Miles making his starting lineup. Son you have been here a long time so you will start and play the most snaps because of seniority. Certainly your 1.5 YPC is of no importance. After all, those Kool Aid drinkers will just blame the OL. heh heh heh Let er Rip!
When I first joined TF, rather than read for a couple of weeks and get a feel for the room, I jumped all over "Chuck" from Auburn because I thought he was being a little snide in his reference to LSU's "cigar" loss the year before. After a while, I realized that Chuck was actually a good poster and not at all anti-LSU or a smack type poster. DownontheBayou needs to learn the same lesson.
what? for curley, beating vandy at home was a huge deal. btw, his lsu team had much more talent than vandy.
The problem I have with certain fans is not their criticism of the coaching staff at times--it's the fact that most of their complaints aren't "constructive"--they're down-right spitefull and more so than not, lack specifics to back up their statements. ...but...moving along, my take on the Ole Miss game was that our original gameplan obviously didn't work. And sometimes that sort of thing happens. Look at some of the games this past year--Michigan struggled to put away Ball State (I believe), Auburn gets dominated by a sub-par UGA team. But all things point to "correct adjustments" made at halftime....at least in terms of our offense--and in most cases, our defense. It's quite obvious that any or all adjustments to our coverage teams didn't work. Ole Miss made it the game that they did because of special teams. They didn't pile up 300 yards of offense or blow us away on 40-yard plays. They just took as much time off the clock as possible--keeping our offense off the field for probably 80% of the 3rd quarter. Our defense would stop them on 1st down. Stop them on 2nd down, but get beat for 8+ yards on 3rd down... I wasn't happy with the way our defense played vs Ole Miss--specifically their ability to get off the field on 3rd downs and I feel that our defense has played realtively flat the past 2 weeks (beginning with 'Bama). I also didn't particularly agree with certain personel moves at first (playing JV) but then again, JV actually ran the ball effectively--not great--but decent. But because Ole Miss had success in the return game, they had short fields seemingly all night long and they got enough yardage to get scores. By the time we actually had the ball on offense, the score dictated that we didn't have the time to stick with the run. Everyone here claims that the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football--and for good reason. We boast the most teams in the top 25 than any other conference. But it's also the play of teams like MSU (who beats 'Bama), and Kentucky (who defeated the same UGA team that mangled Auburn). Ole Miss--even at only 3 wins is improved over the past 2 seasons and that point should be evident in the way that they played against not only LSU, but agaisnt Auburn and Arkansas this year. 2 years ago, Ole Miss would have lost those games by a combined 75-90 points! So if we're to take pride in the fact that the SEC is the toughest conference in the nation, it's ok to take pride in the fact that even some of the bottom-end teams can be better than what their record dictates. I don't think Ole Miss is a title-contender, but give them credit--they DO have some talented players--not a whole lot obviously--but enough on that roster that WE recruited and felt were good enough to play at LSU. Enough talent that they CAN play tough against some of the top-end teams in the conference. Did I think we played a good game in terms of gameplan? No. I think it's obvious that our gameplan didn't work as well as the coaches thought heading into the game--but they did make the nec. adjustments at halftime. As much as you might personally dislike a particular coach or multiple coaches, you can't deny that when it got closer and closer to "crunch-time", the right plays/calls were made...not only by the coaching staff--but by the players as well. We had a poor game against Ole Miss... But so did Auburn. Auburn had a relatively poor game vs 'Bama too and if not for 2 'Bama turnovers deep in their own end, Auburn probably loses that game. Arkansas needed a few returns of special teams and a turnover to beat pitiful Miss State! If the band of naysayers that constantly call for Miles' head due to even the most minute mistake want him gone because of whatever reason, then what SEC coach WOULD be good enough?? Richt has lost 4 games this season and had an offense that looked about as good as a standard Kentucky one for more than half a season... Tubby gets pasted by the aforementioned offense-less UGA bulldogs.... Houston Nutt's top-5 ranked Razorbacks get throttled by a USC team that EVERYONE here has claimed is "over-rated"... Spurrier is widely considered to be the best coach in the SEC and yet, as good as he is, he still can't get the Gamecocks to over-come the fact that they aren't nearly as talented as Tenn, Florida, LSU, Aurburn and Arkansas.
Uuumm, last I checked, Les is recruiting just as well as Saban did. When can we expect this "drying up" to take place?
I always enjoy having good sports debates with Tiger fans, or anyone for that matter. I just have a problem when posters get personal. It seems like when posters start getting personal is when they run out of intelligent arguements. Sports Debating is so much more enjoyable with out the, "my dad can beat up your dad" garbage. What I enjoy is that I can completely disagree with SabanFan (for Example), then in another post I am completely on board with him. I can also say that almost everybody's spelling has improved with SabanFan participating. I can't think of any spell corrects at all this season..... :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
