I looked up the History of Alabama and I wanted to look only at recent History and see if Alabama was still the superpower that they think they are, here are the facts

Since 1980 Alabama and LSU have both won ONE NC.
    Alabama's in 92 and LSU in 03

Since 1980 both have won the SEC 4 times

    Alabama 81,89,92, and 99

    LSU 86,88,01,03

So if you want to look at recent history (26 years) it looks like LSU and Alabama are on the same terms. If you look at since 2000, Alabama lags far behind, winning NO SEC championships and not even coming close to a National Championship.

The fact is the Bama fans are living in the past and they still consider themselves the "premier" program in the country even though they have done nothing since 99, and have not been a consitent top 25 program in 15 years.

Here is another article from an Alabama paper saying the same thing,

I'll give you the fact the last 10 years have been rough on the program. But, the notion you are putting forth that the program isn't one of the premier programs in the NCAA is assinine.

Case in point is the interest shown in the program by fans just like yourself..."premier" exampled by the interest shown in the program even during the rough years.

You know damn well once the effects of the sanctions have passed the team will be able to compete with anyone in the nation. Fact is, even during the sanctions this team has been competitive with all of the top 10 teams we've faced...just lacking in enough depth to compete for 4 quarters.

You guys got sanctioned for cheating, right? Arguably, that is how you guys climb to top, right? The big question remains: Can Bama regain it's status doing things the fair way?

Alabama football was dominant in the 1990s, and the 1 national title is misleading.

1994 resulted in an undefeated regular season, 96 was an SEC West crown, and 98,91 and 90 had bowl appearances.

Nevermind the 1992 national title and 1999 SEC Title.

    2001... bowl win.
2002... 10 win season and top 10 finish.
    2004... bowl appearance
2005... 10-2 record, cotton bowl win, no. 8 ranking
    2006... already bowl eligible

More money for the program! :)

Alabama 53 bowl appearances (NCAA Record)

I agree, definitely a plus but I wouldn't use it in the context of an "Alabama being dominant" argument.

That is funny. I have been reading the tide message boards and they are still talking about the Bear and how dominant they used to be. The fact is in the last 26 years they have been an above average team, not dominant in the least. In 92, it was a HUGE upset of Miami. BTW, I was rooting for them that night. :)
