GMTarondor, I agree...Let's not give JR the job just yet...Flynn might be "the man"...

Boy, Marcus Randall can sure run though... if his passing skills were better he'd be head and shoulders our best person at QB this year.

Maybe but I remember first seeing Mauck play and it made me worry. He seemed light years behind Davey.

I remember some good and some bad from Marcus last season. We were one miracle play away from losing to KY. The Auburn game was very bad. The SC game was great. You just never know which Marcus will show up.

He is the 2nd best QB we have. But I worry if he has to win one for us.

Typically I enjoy reading your post. They appear to be well thought out and they are interesting. I respect you for defending Randall and this is not the first time you’ve come to his defense. However, many disagree with you and I’m not an exception. I think you displayed poor sportsmanship in telling people that disagree with you to shut up. I don’t know how long you’ve been a tiger fan, but I’ve been a fan for 30+ years. I’ve witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly. The worse performers at the QB position in my opinion are: Jamie Howard, Jeff Wickersham, and Marcus Randall.

Randall and Howard directly contributed to losses “big time” to AU. If Howard and Wickersham were on this team, knowing what I know about their performance, Randall would still be at the bottom of the pecking order. He may have been a good HS QB, but he is way out of his league at the college level.

GMTarondor: As for the assumption that Randall will be the QB next year, because he is currently #2. I don’t believe seniority counts. He is the #2 only because Saban does not want to use up a red shirt on one of the freshman. Saban is taking a gamble that MM will not be injured.

I do believe that MR has talent and would probably do well as a receiver. I was not as fortunate to watch the game live last night, and the local cable company screwed me on the game-plan, therefore I was limited to lsusportsnet. I could sense a difference in the flow of the game as soon as Randall entered. Don’t forget, Randall entered with the #1 offense still playing.

If LSU is to have a remote chance to win out, we best all hope for a healthy MM. Matt is not a light it up QB, but he is steady and the team believes in him. This team does not believe in Randall nor did the team last year. I do agree that Randall had his moments last season. He did nothing to keep us from winning against Arky. Lack of defense in the final minute cost us that game.

I promise you that Randall will not be the starter next season. In fact, if Randall plays this position, he will be 3rd at the very best. If MR wants to see the field more he has three options: A remarkable turnaround in performance at QB, Transfer, Change positions. Otherwise, get comfortable carrying the clipboard. JMO

ChuckE I agree with your post although I think J. Howard could have been a good quarterback if he had some decent coaches.
However, Brock Berlin was selected as the HS School player of the year his Senior Year in HS. I believe that Randall would give a better chance if winning than BB.
Don't know how those recruiting Gurus can continue to sell their product with Berlin on their resume.

I don't know about the Howard/Wickersham/Randall asessment...Did you ever seen Melvin Hill play?

Regarding red-shirting... I think the rule about red-shirting someone allows for a player to play up to 3-5 quarters combined in the first 3 games of the season.

If this is correct, what is the reasoning do you think in not letting Russell and/or Flynn get some playing time at all?

Saban said that they were both 3rd on the depth chart and didn't want to put one guy in without getting the other guy in as well because it would open up a can of worms he didn't want to deal with because the media would automatically assume that the kid who got the nod is actually the 3rd stringer.

Wrong. If a kid steps onto the field for one play at any time during the season, the redshirt is off. So, the reasoning in not letting Russell and/or Flynn get some playing time at all was to preserve their redshirts and give them each four years of eligibility after this year.
