Yeah, to me JV has never thrived in squeezing/powering himself through the holes (but like you said, he was barely presented with any opening anyways). Besides 2003, he has looked best when he gets a screen, draw, or any play that provides him with more room to work with, where he can make cuts in the open field.
JV didnt have much room to run, and his only good run got called back for a hold. Broussard is an animal, and for the 1st game, having only problems in punt returning, that is DAMN good... Broussard will be the man again next week. I expect 15 carries for him, about 7 for JV, and about 4 for Hester
I disagree on this one. It iseemed pretty clear that Hester is more affective playing FB rather than a Tailback. His 3.87 yards per carry wasn't good. When Alley entered the game and ripped off his first run, the whole crowd went nuts. Charles Scott is an extremely impressive RB, also Keiland Williams (the little we saw of him). I think Miles is trying to get these young backs ready ASAP, and I think we'll see something like Broussard, Scott & Williams with Hester at Fullback by the time we head into Auburn. LSU!
agree. looks like les will have em lined up. by the time the 4th qtr comes around our backs should be doing some serious damage and controlling the clock IF the o-line gels. gets tougher next week.
JV didnt have much room but I saw a couple of times when he was just touch or trip with a hand and went down. Not impressed!
You were home by 10 pm? Did you leave at half-time? BRPD has got to be the most incompetent traffic cops in the country. It took me and hour and a half to get to Denham Springs. I heard someone take a shot at JV last night but it should be pointed out that he ran against a stacked line of fresh defenders at the start of the game. JR and AB looked great.
Game went pretty much as expected, but a couple of thoughts... Running game ... Man, do we need AB to get completely healthy and in game shape by the Auburn game. He's just an animal out there. Scott looked really good as well. Hope to see more of Williams against Arizona, as he just looks like a special player. OL looked average, but AB will make them look much better. JV can't be our #1 RB. Defense ... ok, what's up with Pittman standing up and moving all around? Was this scheme just for the ULL game or something we'll do all year? Gotta say that I don't think it was all that effective and prefer a 4 man front. I saw too many holes for ULL to run through. Overall, a good start to the season. Didn't see any injuries out there. JR is going to light it up this year.
AB is going to be the man, followed by Charles Scott and Williams. JV still isn't the killer he was in '03. Don't give me this "he faced a fresh line of defenders" stuff. It was ULL, and the other three backs mentioned gained positive yardage almost at will. I'm interested to see Holliday get out there again. That fumble was jitters and nerves--that he'll have to lose quickly before hitting the SEC. I noticed that JR has really improved in not locking in on one receiver. His head was moving, checking receivers who were open. That's a big improvement. His touch could still use some work, but he's looking confident and good. He's our man. Flynn also looked good; his running ability is a definite plus for us. As for the poster who said next week, we have to be much better, yes, that's correct. But I stayed up and watched Arizona on TBS last night, and they are still pretty bad. They have little to know running OR passing game, and they gave the BYU QB (who was also bad) all day to throw the ball to slow receivers.
I think the coaching staff was trying a scheme to see if it is something we can use against Florida and their offense. I thought when Herman Johnson was in with Ciron Black that is when the holes started to open up.
