Going for it on 4th down and failing twice. Burning his final timeout on THE EXTRA POINT! and not having any sense of urgency down the stretch. All of these things i expected from mack brown, but it was pete carroll down the stretch who looked confused and overwhelmed. Maybe in the PAC-10 you can get away with that stuff but in a real conference that is going to cost you at least 2 wins a year. Here in the SEC we cant just scrape by on talent alone. I honestly believe that USC began to believe ESPN. ESPN everyday tells us how USC is the best team ever, unbeatable etc. Finally, I think that USC began to believe it. Reggie Bush is great, but he thought he was superman pitching the ball after a 50 yd gain. Carroll thought he could hand the ball to leinart with 19 secs left and they could pull out a win. I hate texas more than anything because they are usually the ones who are overconfident, but USC deserved this loss because USC was the arrogant punks and texas was the underdog this time. As much as it pains me to say it...congrats texas, your humility and poise under pressure earned you the national championship and a win over an overhyped and overconfident team.:angryfire
I agree 100%... I have to fight the USC thing all the time out here in California. I see the red and gold all the time. I work at Albertsons and saw so many USC sychofants with their stupid red and gold hats and jerseys come in tonight and when they'd say, "USC all the way!" I just smile and act like I really cared. USC is overhyped. USC is overrated. USC has been debunked. I'm so happy to see it. I hope with Bush leaving, Leinart leaving, and other seniors and starters leaving that USC crashes and burns with Booty at the helm. I respected Josh, but he flat out sucked, and I thought Abram had outstanding potential if he could stay healthy, but for John David to totally leave Louisiana and go to USC, all I have to say is: BURN, BABY, BURN!!! USC fans = & Texas fans = & LSU fans = & :hihi: &
carroll is one of the most overrated coaches in college football in my opinion....and he will always be a douchebag in my book.
That TO really was one of the stupidest calls I had seen in awhile. They needed that TO with just 16-18 seconds left
With that last 4 down try I thought that was pretty stupid. There was just 2 minutes left. Granted UT would have driven down the field but giving them a longer field it could have possibly given USC a chance to run keep the clock on their side. The Bush turnover wasn't all that key since Texas had stopped them cold on the 1st possesion then fumbled the punt. That was a tradeoff. I think another big key was the interception UT had at the goal line.
the 4th down call was NOT stupid. He knew he could not stop Vince Young, and he shredded the Texas defense the whole 2nd half. Lets look at if he punts... Vince Young has 3 timeouts and 2:00 mins to get downfield to score. Does he do it.... yeah!! Ok USC gets the 1st down and gets to do the victory kneel and it is ballgame. The tethered on that one play and Texas won and won the National championship.
He didn't call the TO though it was the players on the field...I dont think going for it was a bad call either time but I just think the wrong play was called.
why not have your playmaker on the field when the game is on the line? where was Reggie Bush? if anything use him as a decoy.
I dont think going with lendale white was the wrong call IF you do decide to go for it. He is the short yardage back, and you wouldnt know it from watching ESPN but he is every bit as good as bush just not the highlight film star that reggie is. The reason, nittany, that you dont go for it there is because if you pin Texas deep then that would give your defense more field to work with and Texas may not have been able to score from an extra 30 yards out. Maybe those extra thirty yards would have taken 19 seconds to score from, time runs out, and USC wins. 4th and 2 punt the ball away. Any coach worth his weight would have done that. Carroll going for it there illustrated his ESPN inflated ego and Video Game mentality and it bit him in the A$$.
