...a bad enough name for a bowl, the Peach Bowl won't be called "The Peach Bowl" after this year....and it's too bad. Peach is to Georgia as Sugar is to Louisiana. But, evidently, similar to how the Citrus Bowl is now the Capital One Bowl, another corporation will be taking a previously well-named bowl and making it there own. :dis: Lady's and Gentlemen....I give to you, the Chick-fil-A Bowl! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...als/bowls/2005/12/16/peach.bowl.ap/index.html
And now, I present you.... the BCS Bowls! The Nokia Bowl The Tostitos Bowl The Citi Bowl The Fedex Bowl Awesome!
I love Chik-Fil-A restaurants, but this is a shame. Why is it better to completely drop the "Peach"? What if Chik-Fil-A one day dropped sponsorship? Then, it has no identity whatsoever! It'll always be known as the "Peach Bowl"...even after this nonsense begins...
I've always been a big fan of the Walnutgaylordmusiccitymeinekecarcareliberty Bowl over in Houston. I never miss that game...
I hate all of the corporate take overs of sports. I still call Lowes Motor Speedway, Charlotte...Pro Player Stadium, Joe Robbie...I'll just die an agonizing death when Tiger Stadium becomes Louisiana Lottery Stadium at Entergy Field.
Fact of it is that the Citrus Bowl, Peach Bowl etc. were sponsored by those industries, so its really not much of a change, just sounded better...
Do you have a link for this? I don't remember hearing about certain industries sponsoring bowl games. How do you explain the Gator Bowl, Rose Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl? Peach = Georgia peaches. Sugar = Sugarcane. Citris and Orange Bowl = Florida oranges. I'm not saying you aren't right. I just don't recall hearing this.
I don't see any mention of industries financially supporting the bowl games early on. Mostly groups of men with a vision trying to help their individual communities. http://www.orangebowl.org/OB.php?sec=history http://www.tostitosfiestabowl.com/fiestabowl/history.html http://www.nokiasugarbowl.com/football.php?content=history§ion=football http://fcsports.collegesports.com/about-us/60-years.html http://www.tournamentofroses.com/rosebowlgame/gamefaqs.asp http://www.peachbowl.com/atlantagamemain.shtml http://www.peachbowl.com/historymain.shtml# LSU won the first Peach Bowl in 1968, defeating Florida St. 31 - 27
And people are fighting to keep the bowl games so hard, why?! Tradition? That seems to be getting lost anyway.
