I feel totally bad for all the LSU fans out there, this was a season to remember and the SECCG will make the season be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

I really don't understand the need for Conference Championship Games when one of the teams in the Championship Game has clearly dominated their conference a lot more than the other team.

LSU finished the season with only 1 SEC loss, while Georgia finished the season with 2 SEC losses. Clearly LSU was the better team in the SEC this year, so why play a Conference Championship Game?

Then there was the Big 12 Championship Game today where Colorado with 3 Big 12 losses, including 1 to Texas already this season, had a chance to upset the Longhorns (who have not lost to a Big 12 team this season) and win the Big 12. :dis:

I can see the need for conferences to have championship games when there are 2 teams that have a legitamite claim to the conference championship, but otherwise the chamionshis game is just a trap door for the higher ranked team.

lt proves that we didn't deserve a BCS bowl and UGA did... i think CG are great, i just wish everyone had one.

Whatever buckeye.. Tell your conference to grow a pair and add some members and get a championship game going.

I really do like the conference championship games. However, real thought and consideration needs to go into setting up the divisions to balance them out. The SEC does this best.

whos to say UGA wouldnt have beat LSU if they had played in a regular season game? giving LSU 2 SEC losses. not to mention the SECCG helped LSU get into the '03 NC game. championship teams win these games.

you do have a point if the 2 teams had played previously but i'd hate it much worse to go undefeated along with someone else in conf who just happened to not be on the sched this year.

the one thing i dont like about it is the loser of the game usually gets the short end of the stick bowl wise.

And the SEC loses out having 2 teams in the BCS. The conference championship game just hands another team a loss which makes it easier for the BCS to pass up on that team.

The risk of a better team losing in the CG is a whole lot better than having two undefeated teams in a conference NOT having an opportunity to play each other (2002 Iowa and OSU). Championship game upsets have also been an effective tool to expose overrated teams (KSU '98, OU '03, Va Tech, Tenn 01). Bottom line Conf. Championships=more football.

  8. I agree with some of your points regarding the championship games but i think they would be fair if all conferences had one. There are also a laundry list of problems with the BCS setup and the lack of a playoff of sorts. The bowls have to stay around though but there are a lot of other adjustments to the system needed.

Leave it to a whiney Big 10...err 11 fan to downplay conference championship games. Because the conference is split into divisions, a championship game is designed to let the 2 best teams from each division square off and ultimately determine the best team. No sense in whining if your team loses, especially when they get blown out.

So what if lsu had the best record...they just happened to play UGA last, holding on to that one loss longer than others. It's OBVIOUS Lsu was not the best team in the conference...they've squeaked out wins for long enough. And thankfully we have a conference championship that let us spell that out for the delusional.
