I could see giving them a few points for the two extra wins, but they have played two more games than us. That will work itself out after our next three games. Their schedule doesn't impress me at all. By no means is it better than ours. The Central Mich and South Fla games cancel out our UNT and App ST games and I am sure that App St could win against one of them. Miss St could possibly beat both of them. Their two biggest wins are against a decent Northwestern and disappointing Ohio St. Their loss is against a team that is no better than TN.

Once we beat Alabama we will jump them in the BCS and distance ourselves with wins over Ole Miss and Ark. Penn St will be a non issue in a couple of weeks What's going to hurt them more than anything is an open date this week and being idle the last week of the regular season. Add to that the fact that they do not play a conference championship game.

i dont want to go nuts on this because it really is a minor point.
    BUT,

Michigan is better than UT, and more importantly that was a road L for PSU.

South Fla beat, no check that, killed a good Louisville team. UNT or App St has absolutely no chance of doing the same. BTW, South Fla has a real shot at winning the Big East and playing the SEC champ in the Sugar.

if you compare schedules-- NW=ASU(a stretch); OSU=Auburn (a stretch); Wisc=UF (a stretch) and Mich=UT (a stretch) then PSU still has wins over Minnesota and Purdue who are both better than any of LSU's other wins, by far.

Agreed. It is very hard to argue Penn State's ranking at this point.

Penn State will finish the season having played 9 teams with .500 or better records. The two teams they've played with losing records are Illinois and Purdue, who Penn State beat by a collective 99-25.
LSU has played four teams with losing records and still have Ole Miss (3-5) and Arkansas (2-6) to play.
Penn State lost its one game on the road @ Michigan.
LSU lost its one game @ home to Tennessee.

Personally, I think LSU/PSU would be a great game to watch, but ...right now ... there is much logic for PSU's comparative ranking.

Ah, the cry of every fan whose team is not ranked #1 or is not on this morning's front page of USA Today.

But seriously, how about most of the preseason?
