Re: J MAR I too think he'll be a very good QB, and shows flashes of it now. It's very easy to forget that he's still a sophomore, and it's rare for a QB to really be dominant before their junior and senior years.
Re: J MAR I agree. He's still young, but he continues to improve. If he could cut out the mistakes (usually the ones under pressure, like bad throws, or not throwing the ball away), and learn a little better how to read defenses and check off at the line, he'd be just plain incredible. I read recently an article where Jimbo said that Mauck used to be able to read defenses and audible any time, and did so frequently. Just think how good Russell would be if he could learn to do that.
Re: J MAR According to Jimbo, Russell checks off at the line & reads defenses just as much as any other QB he's ever had, but I don't think he's as good at it as Mauck yet. He never got it last year & he's learning as he goes this year. I think JR is good at clock management, but not yet great. Our line has put him in some tough situations through backing us up with penalties (or the refs have atleast) and I think despite his occassional bad decision, he's having about a good of a year as we could expect.
Re: J MAR it was a great pass, but still not a wise pass. over the middle in double coverage? the wide out saved it, jump ball. J MAR NEEDS a break out game. something he can put he and staff can put their finger on and nodd and say yep that was where it started. A game where he can say, " That's where I stepped up and became a leader as QB at LSU." He's not quite there yet. He has the tools. A game where he doesnt fumble, no INT's ( all Qb's have them from time to time ) and he eats up the CB's and safetys. A game he is the MVP, SEC player of the week WITHOUT any miscues. No I don't mean lil stuff, I mean big stuff like ball handling. He could have 5 400 yard passing games in a row that we won and be SEC player of the year and if he made fumbles that were his fault in each game, the coaching staff and J MAr would see it on film and it would ruin the good part of the performance. If he can turn the corner and not look back so to speak, he should prove to be a great QB. The key is not looking back, build from that game. A Break out game that says, I am the leader and QB, I'm not just starting." As far as "when" this happens. sophomore, senior, etcc? who knows.. obviously the sooner the better. I guess it depends on how long everyone is willing to wait? I bet he does that this week agaisnt AWWW barn! :hihi:
Re: J MAR Check out his facebook profile. http://lsu.facebook.com/profile.php?id=23412918 "Im cool and down to earth I feel like Im 1 of The Chosen 1s that GOD chose to be great" Unfortunately, when you have that attitude, you tend to not approach work with a correct mindset. Why put the work in? I'm chosen. We've seen that at work in two games now, going up with a big lead then seemingly packing it in. He does so much better when the chips are down. Can we just start spotting all opponents two TD's?
Re: J MAR He has all the tools necessary to be absolutely, friggin (can I say friggin?) great! I wonder if he had fewer physical tools would he try to force things as much. We've seen glimpses of greatness, and signs of attempting the impossible (by ordinary standards). I think when he's done at LSU he will have won more than 80% of his games. :geauxtige
Re: J MAR kcal, please refrain form friggin cursing in your posts. That friggin crap is not acceptable around here. Friggin chill! Ok? signed, this mod
