ok, i know i sound bitter, but a usc coach and then player (bush?) called for a timeout on the play where leinhart fumbled out of bounds. the coach a player were right in front of the refs. usc had no more timeouts and that would have been a penalty and if they kick the FG--OT. this wasnt like the les miles TO attempt against UT for a halfsec from the sidelines.

    Interesting because...you're 100% correct.

All I can figure is the officials did not see it, which is plausible b/c they were dealing with getting the fumble call correct, clearing the field of ND players and fans, etc., so I for one can understand if they didn't see Petey Carroll calling for a TO.

Amazing game. If Leniart doesn't fumble, they lose.

I wanted USC to win to keep ND out of the top 10, but Carroll deserved to lose for not playing for OT. That sh!t is going to cost him when we play them.

I hope Texas passes them in the polls, they definately are the LUCKIEST team but not the best. Second best... mmmm maybe but for dahm sure the luckiest... they are the "new" Ohio State. :dis:

I don't think that trying to call a timeout when you don't have one is a penalty--at least I've never seen it called. In basketball it is because the flow of the game is stopped to call the TO. They can only be called during a dead ball in football, so the situation is different.

The amazing part to me is that Leinart's decision to try to run it in was profoundly stupid (just like JR vs Tenn and Josh Booty vs AMAB in 99) but the Trojans lucked out. You just keep waiting for those things to catch up to SC and they never do.

Look out though, Charlie Weis is building a great program at ND.

Football and basketball are different when it comes to timeouts.

Football TO: Dead ball only and a team has only 3 per half. A team cannot call and get a TO if the full allotment is gone. No penalty.

Basketball TO: Dead or Live action (if you have control of the ball) and you have unlimited TOs. When a team runs out of their official allotment, a team can still call and get a TO, they just get a tech.

ND will probably move up in the polls.

I thought it looked like Leinarts fumble went out of bounds into the endzone. If this is the case it should have been a safety.

Doesn't matter now, but I think USC got a seriously lucky break today.

They remind me of the '49'ers of the late '80's/early '90's: They seemingly get EVERY "close" call imaginable based on everyone's obsession with them.

Media flogging their dolphin....now the refs....everyone gives them the benefit of the doubt simply because they're on a 28-game winning streak.

Actually, it would have been a touchback, giving ND the ball on the 20--game over. However, it seemed to me that it went out over the 1.
