"I play defense so I want to hurt the quarterback. Any free shot I get, I'll gladly take it." -- Oliver on trying to pressure Florida QB Chris Leak
I can loan him ( leak ) some neosporin if my wife has some. other than that... he is Outta luck. ( SOL ) :yelwink2:
This should be addressed by Coach Miles. Your goal is never ( I repeat Never ) to hurt someone. Defense means you do everything you can to keep the other team from scoring. This is absolutely unnacceptable. Football is a dangerous game and people do get hurt. It is part of it . But no one should ever go on the field with the intention of hurting the other teams players. Hit them hard , go for the ball, try to separate them from the ball but to hurt them. My God what kind of statement is that. If he really said that then he has a lot to learn. If he kills Chris Leak will he be happy. Maybe just hurt him bad so he lives in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. These kind of statements are one thing that is wrong with college football. Where has sportsmanship gone.
I interpreted it as he's just going to (legally) hit the hell out of Chris Leak every time the opportunity comes. Football is an aggressive sport and if you can't take the hits, you shouldn't be playing. Melvin Oliver was just telling you that when he hits, it will be hard, and will likely shake you up. Good for him :thumb:
Link From Advocate Scroll to the bottom. Under the final word. I love this kind of stuff. This is football remember! All Oliver is saying is that he fully intends to do his job to the best of his abilities. It would be different if the starting pitcher for the baseball team said he was going to throw at the best hitter or something. They are supposed to hit the quarteback as hard and often as possible in case there is any confusion.
Hitting the qb hard is OK But the quote says hurt. The last time i checked the word hurt means to injure or cause injury. You might as well say hell the bottle hit a bus. not a person. You can try to interpret all you want but the word intentionaly hurt should never be used by a football player. Never.
"You can try to interpret all you want but the word intentionaly hurt should never be used by a football player. Never." I'm sorry, are you a soccer player or something?
