Sorry if this has already been posted. Just thought some would like to know/realize that our defense is currently ranked 28th. Here is the rest of the article. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=201953
Hello? Bashers? Comments? (Preview) "They improved vs. inferior competion so it means nothing. Let's see how they do against Florida."
Well, I thought it was ok to post that article given the fact that some on here were bashing us or should I say comparing us to other teams that, at the time, had ONLY played "inferior competition". I'm just pointing out that after playing lesser talent on our ownwe're not doing too bad.
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?div=4&site=org We're still down in the pass defence cat. but USC's awesome defence is right by us.
Thats a bunch of crap.. LSU is allowing 2.2 yards per rush.. no matter how many times they rush the ball, that is a damn good number...
They improved vs. inferior competion so it means nothing. Let's see how they do against Florida. Also, I would add that we were back to blitz happy vs. Vandy. Let's see if we continue that against Leak, while simultaneously covering their receivers. Although Prude played a fantastic game, I still believe Chevis Jackson may be the worst corner ever at LSU. Even worse than pre-senior year Hoofkin. I wonder why Stevenson and Sammy Joseph aren't seeing more action.
Yes we were ranked last with only 2 games against quality teams under our belt. Yes the Florida's and Alabamas and Tenn's had at least 2 easy games to pad their defensive numbers. Yes we moved up considerably after playing 2 easy games and yes the defense looked great for those games. But that doesn't excuse the fact that we should not have been ranked that low after the ASU and UT game. That was inexcusable and I mainly fault the play calling and schemes for that. We still should not be 28th. But kudos to the players and Pelini for changing the philosophy and schemes and for having an awesome run defense. However, I am still very worried about the UF and Bama games. Let see how the D handles these guys to decide if they are for real and if Pelini can make the right calls and schemes.
No we don't. LSU has gone from #116 to #87 in pass defense. Progress is being made. Meanwhile LSU has advanced to # 2 in rushing defense. LSU's improvement in pass defense has not been at the expense of the rush defense. Neither has the excellence of the rushing defense been at the expense of giving up the pass. If LSU stuffs the run and forces a team to pass on almost every down, then they become vulnerable to the blitz.
That's up from #117. No matter how you slice it, that is tremendous improvement. So, yes, I'm satisfied. But, then again, I'm a mature adult.
Pass defense has improved too. LSU held the #1 passer in the SEC to only 113 yards of passing. Well below his season average. PASSING AVG/GAME Team Cl G Att Cmp Int Pct.
