I've been just as disappointed all week as many around here, not because of the loss, but because of the myriad questions and implications that arose from it. That said, what perfect timing for a short week to put an end to our misery and give us something to look forward to! If the 24 hour rule normally applies, then certainly 72 is sufficient for this game.

So....what are the expectations around tomorrow's game in Starksville? What are the key match-ups that will most benefit the Tigers? What parts of our game (i.e. rush defense) will show up and make the difference? How do their strengths match up against our weaknesses (i.e. 10 yard cushion zone D)?

This board is full of folks who know the x's and o's far better than I, so I look forward to hearing the responses. Let's hear some critical analysis!

(and honestly - there are 150 other threads set up for maligning the coaches and speculating on the future of the program - let's keep this one on track, please.)

I think tomorrow's game is going to be rough for some of those hard-core "gloom-n-doomers". NOT that I expect LSU to play poorly, or as poorly as they did that 2nd half vs Tennessee, but because I think Miss State is an improved football team from what we've seen from them the past 2 years.

I don't look for Omar Connor to exactly light us up, but I think their defense has improved and the fact that they gave UGA a pretty decent game holding UGA to under 100 yards rushing. All of that means that for some of our Tiger fan friends that are so blinded by their hatred of certain coaches, they'll view anything less than a 28-point victory as a failure.

I see this one being 31-14 in favor of the Tigers. Short week to prepare, our guys are not happy with the outcome from Monday night, and the Sr. leadership has called out the team (Williams' comments about hoping that the rest of the team was as frustrated with the loss as he was, etc.) will get us moving in the right direction.

This game vs MSU marks the end of what has certainly a rough beginning to the season. After this week, there's no more excuses. No hurricanes. No short weeks to prepare. We'll have 3 games under our belt to have worked out those early season "kinks". It's on to business.

Quentin Culbertson is the only stud sthlete that State has, IMHO. Nick recruited him very hard as a strong safety but he's playing middle linebacker for Croom. Culbertson could make life difficult for the running backs if our injury-depleted offensive line isn't up to the task.

Not a bad assessment! Add to this the fact that MSU Omar Connor will play "HURT" and they shouldn't even get 14 points as LSU should get to Connor often.

If you watched the GA/MSU game, you had to be impressed with the MSU turnaround in just 1 year. As you stated, MSU held GA to under 100 yards rushing but gave up plenty on the passing. That big bastid LSU wanted, Jerrell Powe on the D-line looked very good as did Culberson. They're plenty tough and getting tougher each week to run on. LSU will still run on MSU for about 150 yards or more.

The MSU Achilles heel is their secondary with raw freshmen. LSU should light up the scoreboard early and often in this one & cover the 15-point spread with points to spare if Russell can show up and play.

Final Score LSU 38, MSU 10

Jerrell Powe signed with Ole Miss, not MSU. Croom has certain standards before he will offer a scholly. The main one is: you have to qualify. He didn't and won't. He probably never will. Sad, but true.

If you're looking for a game that LSU can win and answer questions still lingering from Monday night, Miss. St. is not it.

Did skulling them 51-0 mean a damn thing in 2004? Sure didn't mean anything to a Georgia team that rolled them right afterwards.

No, we'll get no real joy from a win in terms of being able to point to improvement until Florida, at the very least.

Go 3-0 against Fla, AU and Ala and that indeed wipes away the Tenn debacle, but that's easier said than done.

I agree, but hopefully we can use these next games to warm up before Florida.
