I understand people's anamosity towards Benson, but why wouldn't any owner want to move his franchise in this situation? His city is a complete loss, already in a small market. His stadium is out of the question for the year and now apparently might be torn down. And on top of all this he's got cities that would pay for everything to move the Saints there. It would be a terrible blow to the city of New Orleans if they lose their entire infrastructure and then their NFL team, but the NFL is a buisness. How many buisnesses have already moved their operations out of New Orleans?
it's not so much that they may move, it's the way benson plans on doing it, and the fact that the nfl is going to let him get away with it.
Well the problem with moving to MC is the issue of land development. A lot of the land that isn't all ready developed are swamps/bayous. Morgan City has the port capabilities our state needs if the Corps of Engineers ever cuts the 30 or so mile canal straight to the gulf. The Atchafalya delta is increasing the land area in this part of LA, so after Houma is wiped out in 40-50 years, there will be no choice but to move west. It is interesting to see how this plays out. I think MC's economy will increase as some oilfield companies move BACK to MC. I don't think it will be as great as the Oil Boom in the 70s, but I do think it will help out a lot. There is way too much history in New Orleans to abandon it completely... I think the economy of NOLA will disperse throughout LA, for instance oilfield related business will move to either Houma or MC, medical related business will move to BR or Lafayette... etc. Who knows what will happen, it is all speculation. It will be interesting, and it is inevitable that LA will be different for our kids, grandkids, etc. I really think BR will be the "new" NOLA, but BR is too far inland to be an effective port-city (IMO.) MC would be ideal, but you would be running into a similar situation that you have in new orleans. I think the one town that might benefit greatly besides Baton Rouge is Lake Charles. Lake Charles is in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and with it being only 40 miles from the gulf, it will prosper.
The NFL does not want to the saints to leave new orleans.. Saints fans are considered amoung the most loyal in the league, they buy more per capita, they are followed by alot of the south that doesnt have a team... Plus the PR hit would be pretty bad... the NFL wants to get into L.A., but not with the saints... they want to clear some of the teams out of the northeast, possible indy or cleveland (again). That way the territory stays covered.
As far as the superdome goes, the structural damage is below the field level, in the area where the water still stands.
I agree 110%. I say root for the Texans. Bob McNair is a heck of an owner and is committed to winning and spending what it takes to do so. I'm sick of Benson's act. Let him go, I say.
