Not to bicker, but how is that different from AU's run in '04? Among the undefeated teams, the media will engineer the matchup that it needs in order to generate the highest ratings. For example, if USC, LSU, and Louisville go undefeated, along with either Michigan or Ohio State, then the Rose will feature USC versus Michigan or OSU ..... and LSU/UL will be on the outside looking in in the same manner that affected AU / Utah. Can't hate the teams, gotta hate the pathetic system :dis:
I think it there are 3 very real possibilities. 1) UT beats OSU and this will be the best chance to beat OU this season. If they beat OSU I think they will beat OU also. Therefore, putting them at #2 after the 2nd game of the season and making them very hard to pass up no matter who you play. The press and everybody will want to see USC and UT match up with completely different QB's. That will be very similar to everyone wanting to see OU and USC in 2004. In this situation I'm not sure LSU would pass them up to get to the NC game even with an undefeated record. With that said I personally don't think LSU will go undefeated. I don't think the QB position is up to par yet and I'm a bit worried about the defense. However this can change rather quickly early in the season and lets hope it does. 2) OSU beats UT and jumps to #2. A similar situation as above. It will be hard to pass them up especially with their schedule in the Big 10 with Mich and Iowa, and UT as non-conference. If UT or OSU go to #2 it will be hard for LSU to pass them up with our relatively easy schedule. Our schedule will be scrutinized versus UT's or OSU considering their out of conference schedule. 3) The ideal situation, which is purely a dream. LSU QB looks great from the first game with great WR and RB corp, the defense is almost as good as 2003, we bump whoever is #2 out of the spot then pass up USC. with an undefeated season. We get an undefeated USC in the NC game, kill them as they killed OU in 2004. The USC brats are astounded and whine about the game and make excuses. Unfortunately, I don't know if I would want to be at that game as a Tiger fan if this happens. Well maybe this 3rd situation isn't all that real, but it is possible. It is an ideal situation because I am worried about the QB and the defense.
Mack Brown has not convinced me that he can beat OU under any circumstances. He's been taken to the woodshed a few too many times by Stoops. Also, one of these years, A & M is due to bite UT on the butt.
Could dang well happen. I have trouble seeing UT going undefeated. As I've said here before, Texas is one injury (QB)away from the outhouse. Young is very talented, exciting to watch (see Rose Bowl), and great when he gets out of the pocket. But he has yet to show consistency in throwing the ball when he has to. As much as he improvises, he is vulnerable to injury. If he's injured, they have no replacement. Other than Young, Texas has no marquee RB returning and there WRs are mostly young and untested. With luck, they could win it all. With a few key injuries, Mack may become the meat at the eatin' meetin'. Consider this.....If Young should be injured, an interesting light is shed on Perilloux's decision to foresake UT for LSU.
For one thing, the Harris Poll not starting until late September greatly reduces that chance. Why? Especially if Tennessee beats Florida first, an undefeated LSU team will be no lower than #3 in that first Harris Poll. If not higher. LSU won't be starting in the mid-teens ranking-wise, and an undefeated SEC team not getting a sniff of a title game simply won't happen again in our lifetimes, so...relax. :crystal:
IMO, Texas will beat OU this season for the same reason Auburn would've beaten OU last season.... Gene Chizik.
Scared? Facing USC in the Rose Bowl is a dream come true that would surpass even the Sugar Bowl in terms of being flat-out awesome. Those guys have dominated the media coverage, are on their way to a "3-peat", etc., etc. Man, I'd love nothing---NOTHING---more than to go to what's essentially their place (where they "won" the title in 2003 and have played in plenty of Rose Bowls)...and f**king take their hearts, stomp 'em into the mud and p*ss on them. In front of 70,000 or so USC "fans", in front of millions who'd give LSU no chance to win, in front of hundreds of reporters who had LSU dead and buried the moment the Rose Bowl matchup was set. In front of God. In front of everyone. :crystal: I smile each and every day just hoping/thinking that this will come true. Scared? Uh, no.
