Whew! Ok everyone, you can breathe again. :hihi:

The new OU head coach is Gene Stephenson, the Wichita State HC.

    Per the Daily Oklahoman today:

I guess officials at OU are hoping that Stephenson can win guys over so they won't transfer.

I wonder if Golloway is kicking himself for leaving the HC job at Oral Roberts U for an asst. position at OU, given what has happened.

Oh, man. I'm so relieved. I was completely convinced that OU would take Smoke away from LSU.

Now all we have to worry about is Smoke leaving us to go to the Major Leagues, just like Saban left us.

Despite some dissatisfaction with his performance, I honestly can't think of anyone that would have been willing to leave their current situation that also would have been 'good enough' to have taken his place.

This guy just left his job for a job at baseball power house OU. Problem is he would never agree to give Skip all of the camp money.

"When Gene Stephenson arrived at Wichita State after his hiring in the spring of 1977, he found nothing. No team, no field, no equipment, no tradition, not even a baseball. The program had been dormant for seven years and did not have any history of success.

Today, WSU’s program is one of the best and most recognizable in the country and Stephenson is respected by his peers as one of the top coaches in Division I college baseball.

Consider the following. Not only has Stephenson won more games in 27 years than any other Division I program, earned his 1,200th career win in 22 seasons, quicker than any other Division I baseball coach, and moved into first place nationally among active NCAA Division I coaches in winning percentage with a career 1,455-465-3 record (.757), he’s established himself as one of the winningest coaches in Division I baseball history. He currently sits in second place among active coaches in number of victories with 1,455 and on April 17, 2004, he moved into second place on the all-time wins list as he passed former Texas coach Cliff Gustafson. On May 21, 2003, he became just the third coach in Division I history to reach the 1,400-win plateau."

"Gene Stephenson has resigned his position as head baseball coach at Wichita State and has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Oklahoma, it was announced by WSU Director of Athletics Jim Schaus today. Joining Stephenson at OU will be his two long time assistants, Brent Kemnitz and Jim Thomas.

"I feel a series of different emotions at the same time," Schaus said. "First of all, I'm sad to be losing a coach of Gene Stephenson's character. I appreciate so much all that he has done over his exemplary 28 years. He has put WSU and Shocker baseball on the map. He is truly one of the greatest coaches in college baseball."

Stephenson completed his 28th season as head coach at Wichita State in 2005 after leading the Shockers to their 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance. The 51 wins in 2005 marked the 18th time Stephenson led the team to 50 or more wins in a season."

I still don't see this as 'over'

I mean it may not be OU, but someting tells me Laval may just resign... I mean Skip has been saying too much weird 'un-Skip-like' things lately.. .

Nah, we couldn't be that lucky. We're stuck w/ the guy for at least another year. Time to move on.

I think for the right deal, Bianco could have been persuaded to come home.
