ok TE - here's your answer (from someone sitting on the 3rd row - me). I was wondering why we're not calling a t.o. to set up a play. But while KU is shooting free throws, Brady called Tack over and - I'm reading lips here - told Tack to dribble and penetrate. So in esscence a "play" was called instead of using a t.o. Now I don't know whether Brady called for Tack to shoot but I really don't think it mattered - Tack was going to be the hero no matter what. At the end of regulation when Brandon was bringing the ball down the court, Tack was calling for it and Bass just looked at him and kept going. I think that spoke volumes - not that Bass wanted to be the hero but that he thought he could handle the situation better than Tack. Just my $.02
well put bully... exactly what was reported in the advocate today also. Our coach actually told the players what to do in all the situations.
total BS on every account. because you are anti brady as well you are trying to take a shot. suspect in the way he coaches? who isnt and what exactly does that mean? the announcers never said anything of the sort. you're misquoting them. congrats on being TE-Lite in that underhanded post. exactly right. tack is better off anyhow when shot out of full court cannon and obviously there's no one who can keep up with him. I had no problem with it for that reason alone. for people to say it was definitely the right call to call a timeout are simply naive. it works or doesn't work both ways.
good questions. you shouldnt be ripped for asking them. i wasnt going to wade through all the te bashing in the thread so forgive me if much of this has already been posted. i dont know the answers. im not a bball coach. but let me play devil's advocate. 1. the absolutely worst thing that can happen in that situation is to get the shot off late. that didnt happen. 2. many bball minds (not just jb, but a lot of others im guessing) think its best in that situation to not let the d get set--perhaps, especially a good d like uk. you must admit that, at times, tack is successful at doing what he attempted. its no secret he's overconfident. its great to want to be the man in that situation, but you need to be able to back it up. 3. dont forget hud had gone cold. plus, we didnt need a three. perhaps hud should have been closer 4. as coach i think minor should have taken the ball past half court and call t.o. if nothing is there. he is the point, he has to make some decisions. maybe he told tack not to drive and shoot under any circumstances but he did it anyway. at least jb didnt rat him out like t davis. 5. it wasnt the worst shot in the world anyway. close in. could have gotten a foul call. 6. obviously, it didnt give us a decent shot at winning. i think there was time for 2 passes. but i like not calling a t.o. i bet minor feels bad and will learn from it. maybe even in the ncaa tourney?
agree on all counts. hudson hadn't hit a shot, much less a 3 in how long? 10-15 minutes? the worst feeling ever is not getting any shot off or throwing one up just because the time is expired. whats weird about tack is I dont get the feeling he wants to be the man or its his ego. It seems its the only way he knows how to play usually, especially in those situations. I dont think he thinks. he just goes. and in that situation, I am content with the decision regardless who's it was.
Tack is fine and he is the kind of kid who I think needs to LIVE that situation in order to learn from it - so there is your silver lining. I just don't get the impression that kids like Tack Minor learn lessons from drawing boards and practice (they do learn, but it's only when it finally happens at full speed that they finally SEE). I like Tack. I like his attitude. After Regis K. left Tack told Hawthorne on the radio show that he and Brady have their differences, but he equated their situation to a family and he went on to say "I tell you one thing, I'm not leaving." It was a shot at the Regis situation I'm sure, but it also showed his character. I like it. Tack is one of those human beings who lives or dies, succeeds or fails AT ABSOLUTE FULL SPEED. That is a quality that is hard to come by these days. He will not wait for someone to make the play - harness this and continue to make it productive, and Tack Minor will finish with a solid career at LSU.
well, there are many posters who dont think they should have to wait for players to develop. brady should recruit great talent and win BIG immediately. only coaches that win with freshmen and sophs are good coaches.
Weird how you two are talking like true basketball powers win with all sorts of veteran saavy... I don't seem to remember anything but what...4 freshman starting for Syracuse a few years back when their 2-3 zone took it all behind Carmelo Anthony's MOP Final 4 Performance... I also remember the VERY next year Brady making statements in the media that with Koundjia, Minor & Bass coming in, that it'd be nice, but not necessarily a surprise, to see LSU have that same success. He made specific references at Media Day last year about how their youth could step in and win early. Stephon Marbury lead his team early on. Steve Francis spent one year at D-1, and went nuts...Chris Porter was one year out of JUCO, too...as was Lamont Roland... Tell you what...You guys name me FIVE Redshirt Senior First Team All Americans in college hoops since the year 2000, and I'll tell you that Brady's long term goal of recruiting non-SEC players like Tyrus Thomas & Temple the 10,000th is a smashing success...
