Miami gave him a chance — perhaps his last — at having a bright future and the former high school All-American linebacker, who was one of the nation's most-coveted recruits in 2004, is vowing to make the most of the opportunity. "I'm going to make sure they made the right decision," Williams said Wednesday after Miami's second spring practice. "Everything I did wrong, I'm kind of working to make it right. I know I've done some things in the past. I know I've made some mistakes. But everybody makes mistakes. I can't fault nobody but myself."
Today's ESPN college football insider newpaper links had eight SEC stories, four dealt with the criminal justice system. Pretty sad...

I like how Miami is trying to make it sound like they are great institution for giving these kids a chance when nobody else would... HAHAHA. Miami doesn't care about criminal records. They weren't aware to the extent of his arrests because they didn't care to look it up.
Two things jump out at me in those two paragraphs. The first is that he is from the same High School as LSU recruit Ricky Jean-Francois. The second is a question. Am I reading right that the three "incidents" listed happened on a recruiting trip?? Did that not tip anyone at the prison farm known as The University of Miami that this kid wasn't a model citizen? Sheesh! What does a recruit have to do to lose a scholarship? Murder someone on their recruiting trip???
Seems like there should be some sort of "3 strikes and you're out" rule pertaining to college athletes and violations of the law. It is regretable that each day's sports headlines contain several college scandal stories. Some people simply don't belong in college, rather they belong in one of our society's more restrictive institutions. The rehabilitation of offenders in our country is a noble thing, a necessary thing, and correct public policy. In my view, the courts, the criminal justice system, and the citizenry are mandated to sort out those who can not walk among us, those who jeopardize our safety. As a famous west Texas judge once told me, "our most important role is to separate the goats from the sheep so the goats can be put in the pen." Once a criminal personality is formed, little seems to change it. Punishment doesn't seem to change it, neither does kindness. It seems we don't quite know how to instill goodness, to instill moral values in folks that didn't acquire same at an early age. This guy seems to have accomplished at least the early development of a criminal personality, a sort of a "do it if it feels good" fellow. Anyone affiated with the UofMiami should be embarrassed that this young man is riding free there. Some things just ain't right. :dis:
What does that have to do with anything? Just because they are from the same school they are the same type of people. I would blame what willie has done on his broken family more than him going to Carol City. Lets not forget who his chaperone was, none other than the keg tosser himself, Channing Crowder.
You're probably right, I figured it was a rough part of town, but to my knowledge the other players that have come out of there havn't been in serious trouble. Also, he only went there from the spring of his junior year. Their coach seems like the type of guy that doesn't take any crap and is pretty good at keeping his players in line, so I wouldn't be too worried about RJF, except maybe if he can qualify.
