first of all, let me say that I don't expect guys like vitale and bilas and all the espn talking heads to know everything, bit this obvious lack of homework by vitale just exemplifies how little these guys pay attention to teams outside of the general public (top 25) and the so-called basketabll power conferences like the ACC and Big 10. As soon as someone like vitale starts to proclaim the SEC is down this year, everyone hops on the bandwagon and pays less attention to the league. read this quote from his column today: "Sophomore point guard Gary Ervin must handle the pressure of running the Bulldogs' offense vs. Kentucky's stifling D. The return of senior guard Winsome Frazier, a big 3-point threat, will be a major plus for the Bulldogs. Frazier hasn't played since breaking his left foot in a win at Mississippi on Jan. 8". http://espn.go.com/dickvitale/vcolumn050217-SEC.html Now, Frazier is a household name who scored 11 pts last night and played 24 minutes. although the game was not televised nationally, it was on espn full court. I don't know whether vitale was doing a game last night but c'mon, he should have known that this guy played more than half of the game and contributed, for that matter. it just shows, outside of the national media's two SEC darlings in Kentucky and Florida (Vitale - you can now get your nose out of Billy Donovan's rectum), the rest of the SEC gets very little attention or respect until a team like Auburn (last year) or Vandy reaches the Sweet 16. I just find it embarassing that a guy who everyone accepts as mr. college basketball didn't know that one of the better players in the league did, in fact, come back, last night and played significant minutes. again, maybe the league is down this year, but I have a feeling that one or two SEC teams will make a run far in the tourney as usual and the talking heads will be silenced once again.
If one or 2 of the SEC teams make a decent run in the tourney that won't prove the league wasn't down this year. I think the SEC's recrod against ranked teams already proves the league is down. I truely believe that for about a 10 year period the SEC was the most underated conference from top to bottom, but the last couple of years the SEC had been down.
and has he not seen bass outplay roberts twice now....why come bass isnt getting any mention for player of the year in the sec?
now im certainly not trying to defend vitale, but the obvious explanation was that he wrote it/posted it before the lsu/msu game last night.
To write a post like this bashing Dicky V for one comment is stupid. This is by far the worst post I have ever read. Do you not think that the article was written before the game? Come on man you do your homework. Dicky V knows all. He can tell what Fraziers great uncle's best friend's dog name is. He knows almost everything about basketball and he watches it 24-7. Very bad post man, very bad post.
"by far the worst post I have ever read"--wow, seemed very strong statement til i saw you have 32 posts. you may be right about vitale, but he is possibly the most annoying human to have ever lived. ok, that's a bit strong. he's probably the second most annaying human to have ever lived after al franken
you may want to grab that sand wedge out of your bag and read the article before you make such a strong statement. if there was any doubt that he wrote it before the game, I wouldn't have posted such a "stupid" thread. Vitale acknolodges in his "wacky SEC rationale" that LSU beat MSU by 8 on wed night: "LSU beats Mississippi State by eight and loses to Tennessee by 22". so, just because vitale has you on his payroll doesn't mean he's always right. this was obviously a man who looked a final score and didn't look into the boxscore. once again, there are so many games and it would be tough for anyone to follow all the games every night, but here he is actually quoting frazier, the LSU/MSU game - it's just poor preparation on his part. there has been discussion on espn for a week now about fraziers return and his importance the MSU team. look, we're not talking about some walk-on on hte end of hte bench. furthermore, you would think one of his editors/piss boys would have caught this. bad golfer, very bad golfer.
I think you are both right and both wrong myself. Knock DV for being an ACC lover for sure, but his mistake about Frazier is not an indication of that by any means. Maybe he didn't actually see the game and had read the reports about how Frazier was not going to play. Or he may have been indicating that he thought a player needs at least one game back in the lineup before he is effective. And just looking at MSU's record you can tell he did write it after the game.
I have no qualm with you, good sir golfer, but that's pretty darn funny. I would have to put Tommy Bowden up there too...oh, and Michael Moore...
