1. When did this news surface?? I can't see why Carter wouldn't be allowed to participate in both sports. He's got such tramendous upside, that it would be hard to think that Miles would let him walk.

Stoltz is a LB. From Arkansas (I believe he's one of the first Arkansas players to have committed to LSU). Everything I've read about him (albeit it was all during recruiting last year) indicates he's a quality player. But, we also have a pretty high volume of LB's on our roster. With the addition of Darry Beckwith (6-foot-1, 224 lbs. with a 4.53 40-yard dash and rated the 9th-best LB) in this year's recruiting class, along with 10 other LB's returning for next season (3 will be RS, Fresh, 1 Soph, and 3 will be Juniors), it could very well be a numbers game for Matt Stoltz.

Next season's projected starters should consist of:
    WILL Ali Highsmith, Soph
    MIKE EJ Kuale, Senior
    SAM Cameron Vaughn, Senior

With other guys seeing substantial playing time such as:
    Kenneth Hollis, Senior
    Brian West, DE/LB Junior
    Willie Demps, Junior

Followed by highly-touted and highly-recruited guys waiting in the wings such as:
    Luke Sanders, RS, Fresh
    Dominic Cooper, RS, Fresh
    Quinn Johnson, RS, Fresh

As you can see, we have tons of talent at the LB positions. Perhaps too much to justify Stoltz staying on and having to wait possibly till his Jr. or Sr. year before getting a shot as a starter (though I would expect Sanders to get some playing time--even if it's limited--as a RS, Freshman as well as a Soph.)
  2. There was an article posted somewhere on TF where X Carter mentions he would consider transferring after he meets the new coach. Then he later came back and said that he meant he would consider it if the new coach didn't allow him to participate in both sports (football & track).

It looks like Matt Stoltz transferring was much more about LSU's depth than any coaching changes. I imagine any other transfers will be due to similar situations.
  3. Same here. One would think that in a situation like Stoltz, it wouldn't have mattered whether Saban was staying or leaving. He may just want to play sooner rather than later. And I'm not sure what the situation is over on the Arkansas depth chart, but if could be a situation where Stoltz knows he has a better shot at playing??
  4. Luke Sanders will be considered a true sophomore this year. Saban burned his redshirt year...Sanders and his family were not happy, especiallly considering he played in only one game, if I remember correctly.
  5. Thanks, I didn't know that. ....but in Sander's defense, he can still redshirt. Everyone has 1 redshirt year, and I don't think it HAS to be taken in your first year (perhaps I'm wrong, and someone more versed in the rules can explain).

Even with that, I still think Sanders is in line for increased playing time as early as this coming year, but I don't look for any real impact playing from him until, what presumably will be his Junior season.
  6. wait, Saban called Luke's parents and basically asked permission to burn Luke's redshirt. they were fine with it

and Stoltz....there was talk of him transferring months ago. its not because of Saban. is his dad sick? i know it has to do with personel reasons.
  7. This is correct. I can not remember the details but for quite some time now his dad has had major health problems. Stoltz is going back close to home so he can assist with caring for his father.
  8. Wow! That's even worse than anyone could have assumed. :(

I wish him well. "Take care of your dad, Matt." I'm sure he's already extremely proud of you.
  9. I am wondering if the Crowton rumors are false, because of Miles saying in today's paper that he has offered the OC to Fisher and is waiting on a response. Would Crowton be the second choice?
  10. If he is the second choice it is only because Jimbo is already here and has an established relationship with the players. Crowton would IMO be a huge improvement.
