All the more reason to find the NEXT "diamond in the rough" QB coach. Todd Dodge, who I am sure Miles is very familiar with, has produced statistically 3 of the best QB performances in 5A history over the last seasons. He won't last much longer in HS ranks IMO. Major Applewhite I heard was going to SJSU with the new coach, how funny would that be to bring him "home". How dumb do we look letting Stefan LeFors out of BR to "light it up" at UL as a QB?
When MR and these other QBs were recruited they were at the top of most of the list in the country. Unfortunatley MR never developed as anticipated. He was suppose to lead the offense this year giving JR and MF one more year to develope. That didnt happen NOT SABANS FAULT. Now lets look at the previouse two QBS. Rohan and Mauck yeah I can see were this staff did a poor job on developing QBs.
Marcus Randall wasn't near the top of any list of QB's but both JR and MF were. It is up to the coaching staff to develope young talent and get them ready to play. Saban and staff have done a really good job of developing players at every position except QB and maybe OL, but the lack of development at QB really stands out. Other teams bring in the SEC have brought in true and redshirt freshmen and had success(tenn, Fl) while other that Davey no QB's have lived up to the hype under Saban and Fisher. Hopefully miles will bring in a OC and QB coach that does a better job developing QB's.
This has been an unusual year for freshman QB play. You have never seen he number of freshman Qbs or any other freshman position player playing like you have this year. Maybe it is a sign of the things to come.
With the amount of money being thrown at players leaving early I think it could be a trend at every position although I don't see a huge change.
Can't flame you. I am indeed sorry to see Saban go, so I disagree with you there. I agree that Randall has been a disappointment, but I hasten to add that he had some good games at LSU and I'm proud of him. Randall looked good until the disastrous INT that he threw, but maybe that was due to being hurt. I say only "maybe" because it should have been CLEAR to Randall that the LSU receiver was NOT open. Why his 5th year senior brain though that he could ZIP that ball in there is beyond me, but it is a great example of the bad decisions that he has made from time to time. I don't strongly agree with your point about Fisher and Saban screwing up by not replacing Randall with a better QB at some point in the last few years. There has got to be some truth to this, so I'd have to say that I agree. I am proud of Randall, and he will always be one of our LSU Tiger heroes.
Im glad to see Saban go cause twice lsu was beaten in crucial games on the last play because of defensive breakdowns and because we were beaten by UAB. I just hope miles does not get the job. If he does we have 4 or 5 skinny years ahead
I have to disagree strongly with you here Dan, I am very sad to see Saban go although I did not agree with every single thing he did like some, but he was a great coach and elevated our program. I also don't wish bad luck on Miles that is just plain crazy. I am having a hard time getting real excited over Miles but I will support him 100% and hope he proves he is indeed a coach worthy of the job.
So wait, wait, wait....Saban wins 2 SEC Titles....a National Title....and 9 games this year with a Capital One Bowl game....and we are complaining that he didn't understand Marcus Randall's recruiting tape? WOW I am sure we could complain about what shampoo he uses if we tried
