His offense for the last 2 years has been the most effecient in NCAA history. We will have the right tools for him to work with. I think he might be the right man to take LSU football to an even more exciting level than where we are now.

I'd approve as long as he brought a solid defensive coordinator with him. We're gaining the reputation as having a GREAT defense here (unlike when DiNardo and ole what's his face, were here)....

Petrino is ok. I'm a little concerned by the whole, "hiring of a C-USA coach" thing (what can I say, Hallman is etched in my mind), but I definately DO NOT want Leach from Texas Tech.

But, I back Butch Davis first (sorry to those that disagree) :thumb:

    Petrino is good, but

...He has no defense. I would rather see someone like Nick who is defensive minded and can bring a smothering defense. There is nothing wrong with the National Championship formula of '03. Good running game and a bone crushing defense. Just my thoughts.

Totally agree. Louisville defense lays down easier that Paris Hilton! I would be embarrassed if I played defense for them. On the offensive side, very very good.

His defense was ranked nationally in the top 20. I hate how some people act like an offensive minded coach doesn't care about defense. Of course he'd like to have a great defense because he knows it takes 1 to win a championship. Do some of you honestly believe he doesn't give a crap if his D gives up 30+ a game? LSU already has the defensive talent he'd just need to bring in a good D coordinator.

petrino inherited this program from John L. Smith, who had recruited Stephon LeFors & Co. While I like what I have seen from petrino thus far, he is only 2 years into that program. While obviously he's a great offensive coordinator, I am not sure LSU should take a chance on someone who simply inherited some great talent as he did before he proves he can establish a program for a period of time.

Lefors wasn't exactly a super star recruit. Petrino has developed him into one pretty damn recruit.

agree with that though if someone comes in and jamarcus turns out to be half decent, you could attribute that to maturity as much as coaching development. That's why you need more than 2 years before handing over the LSU reigns to someone. However, I think he's a winner. Is it worth the risk if he turns out to be a bust....I don't think we can risk it. I'll trust Skip either way on this one. He knows what a winner is and will know if this guy has what it takes. Skip was successful not by having the best overall talent as much as knowing what guys were winners, a la, Warren Morris, Jason Williams, etc.
