I just want to see a better basketball program, and I think most others want that as well. To suggest we can't have that, as SabanFan is telling us, is simply ridiculous.

Most fans (yeah, there are some who simply hate Brady) don't care if it's Brady or you coaching, we just want a coach who can improve this program and take it forward!

are you just trying to be funny or do you really think its that bad?

so what we're 5-2. are you now embarrassed to say you're an lsu fan?
this isnt football were every game is so important. as far as i'm concerned, a basketball coaches job is to get into the ncaa tourn and win some games. i don't care who they beat along the way, what their conference record is, or certainly what their non-conf record is. sure we all want to see lsu win every game, but i dont think brady should be fired because of the recent losses. he should be fired if lsu doesnt get in the tourn and win some games with some regularity.

Look. I would love to have a basketball program to be proud of. I would be a huge fan. I am a huge fan now, but I don't go off the deep end when we lose. I am more than old enough to remember Pistol Pete, the "glory years" in the late 70s and early 80s and even the overachievers of the mid 80s. But those were always blips on the radar after which we again became a run of the mill program. I've been an observer of LSU athletics since the 60s and, frankly, it just doesn't appear that we are destined to be a basketball power. I don't bash Brady because I see talent on the court and, for whatever reason, we can't seem to climb that hump between being a talented team and a winner. Could be Brady's fault. I honestly don't know. I just get rankled when I hear these relative youngsters who have been blessed to have only known outstanding baseball and football programs as well as national powers in all of the womens' sports. It used to be football and nothing else. Now it's everything else and no basketball and most posters here feel we are entitled to be a roundball power as well. I guess it's the vitriol in the Brady posts that sets me off most of the time. Anyway, I'm used to getting gang tackled this time of year and I'm a big boy, so bring it. I won't run and hide. :)

I agree that age brings perspective...and I appreciate that.

But you are selling out and basically embracing mediocrity...I want you to address the questions I posed earlier...

Why is it LSU broke open the piggybank for Saban when we had such a history of losing, and an overall culture of underachievement? Why is it LSU made that commitment in football...and has it not paid off in your eyes...

If that commitment can be made in LSU Football...Why would you come as downright fearful and/or lazy when it comes to making the same type of commitment to LSU Basketball?

It puzzles me...Not in a baffling way...but in a, "I know SabanFan has huge doses of common sense at his disposal and I think he's missed his daily injection," type of way...

    Regis leaves for greener pastures

and according to reports those greener pastures are Arizona, Texas, Louisville, and Gonzaga. Does anyone believe that if this kid wasn't a talent these programs wouldn't be calling?

Unfreaking believable wait its John Brady and its more than believable.

I think we can achieve excellence in basketball, and that would only better this university and state. Texas, Miami, Florida and Alabama are big time programs that have achieved axcellence in those three sports. We have the #1 women's team, why can't we have a top 25 team at least? I think people are looking for a reason to go to the PMAC and feel good about the future. Is there anything wrong with that?

I'm not sure I'd say any of the universities have achieved excellence in their basketball programs. They have had good teams from time to time. Miami is about as good of a program as ours now.

Well, for one thing, the Administration hasn't been as quick as you to write off Brady. In the 60s, Pete Maravich brought a modicum of prominence to LSU basketball but they were never a serious contender for any type of championship. Then, in an effort to get LSU on the basketball map, they hired Dale Brown who did a masterful job of sparking interest and fielding pretty good teams. Dale's star began to fade in the late 80s but he was kept on because he was LSU basketball and you just don't can a living legend. Frankly, he hung around for too long and he left the program in worse shape than it was when he came to LSU. After the butt f**k meted out by the NCAA, we had to start all over again, basically and there was not a long line of premier coaches lined up to take the job. Brady was hired and did a hell of a job for a while, but it does not appear that he is the roundball version of Saban or Skip. Now, I concede, it may be time to try and upgrade to a new coach, but, what "elite" coach wants to come here? We can dangle the big bucks and hope to entice a proven winner, but more than likely we'll get some young up and comer with a promising future. Anyway, the whole point is that LSU did exactly what you are asking for when they hired Dale Brown. Still, the opportunity to seek out a prominent "name" has not arrived.

That reminds me of the time a guy told me I was the best bad golfer he ever saw.
