So, by this logic, the reason you support Brady is because he is a one in a million find, and there are maybe five coaches in the entire country that can shine his shoes? If that's what you think of Saban, what do you think of Coach B? ;-)
Agreed. Those people won't come to grips with reality until we start losing games next year that we should win, go 7-4 or 8-3 and end up in them Dinardo-type bowl games.
I think FightinTiger has a point. Nick Saban would not have won 2 Big Ten titles and a nat. championship at MSU. He did at LSU. LSU had ingredients that MSU did not have, and Nick was smart enough to see the potential and smart enough and hard working enough to realize the potential. TE probably has some good points also about Emmert and Saban winning in spite of Joe Dean and others. I am not close to LSU at all, I'll fess up, I went to USL, but I was a Tiger fan long before that. I've been to more games in Tiger stadium than Cajun Field. The point of the article, and the important point of this thread, is we have to be adult about this. If you're called by a head hunter with an interesting offer, bottom line, we will all listen, to see if it is an opportunity to take our God given talent and utilize it to its fullest and produce the best situation for our family, all things considered. That is all Saban is doing. IF he moves on, lets not be immature and get angry at him. He has done MUCH FOR LSU! Let us thank him and wish him well. The coaches interviewing to replace Nick would be impressed with such mature and intelligent fans. I remember the acrimony when Paul Dietzel left in 1960, and it was not a pretty picture, and not a positive reflection on the LSU fans, who seemed overly emotional and unappreciative for what PD did for the program at that time. Let's do it right this time, if it happens. The university should host a "Thank Nick Saban" night, and all who can should go and cheer for THE MAN. I am thankful for the best 5 years of Tiger football in the last 30 years!
You were the one crying around here not me dude :hihi: Like I said fightinTiger has a point! 1 more thing, Very intelligent answer to my question SabanFan, I've noticed when someone wins the argument you usually respond with a childish comment.
Finally. Someone intelligent to debate with. I was not analogizing coaching abilities. I was pointing out that these same people who are suddenly trying to rationalize losing Saban by implying he's not that great anyway, are largely the same people who constantly cry about our lack of a championship basketball team. Present company excluded, of course.
I wanted to say that I took exception with that, but I figured if I dropped in a Brady reference, I could get that out mea culpa out of you... Seriously, though...Anyone who thinks LSU was "ripe" for this to happen is a total ignoramus...Saban had to cultivate the winning culture...but not amongst our fanbase...He had to do it by building up a Phoenix from the ashes...Because that's what we were...We were great, at one time...but we were a mere shell...and had been for decades...DiNardo built...something...but he didn't have what it took to get us to the next level. He'd be an excellent coach at Louisiana Tech or Troy or some other mid-major University...But in a big elite conference he just doesn't "have it". It's been proven now...twice. Saban is the man...and I doubt very highly that someone else could have waltzed in here and won 4/5 bowl games, average almost 10 wins per year, put us on track to win 49 games in 5 years, two SEC Western Division Championships outright, go 2-0 in the SEC Championship game, and also go 2-0 in BCS bowls. Now, having said that, a Butch Davis or another coach of similar comport could probably achieve those same results, albeit using different methods entirely than what we have grown accustomed to, in that sense. It can be done...But don't think LSU was ready to throw off the shackles and chains by itself...Jenkins put the man in place to make it happen...and Emmert disregarded Jim Beam Dean's tightwad ways of Christmas past and said Baa Humbug to the nattering nabobs of negativism on the LSU Board of Stupidityvisors, and went out and did what was necessary to help LSU achieve excellence.
Don't put words in my mouth, I never said NS wasn't a great coach but I don't think he would've had as much success as he has had here if he stayed at Mich. St. If you think recruiting players out of the state of Louisiana such as Lavais, Clayton, etc, didn't have anything to do with Saban's stature today you are wrong. I pointed out that there are other coaches that would be just as successful as NS at LSU its just a matter of securing one when the time gets here. Butch Davis? Some of us are pointing out that if NS was still at Mich St he wouldn't have won a NC and 2 SEC championships because of the U of Michigan for 1 reason, he wouldn't be as Great as he appears to be then. Sorry if it went over your head but the university and athletes had just as much to do with making NS as he did. You talk about intelligence? Your the one making childish comments when you have lost the argument not us.
Believe whatever you want to if it makes you feel better. By the way. I still don't think Saban is leaving.
I think it was more of a perfectly matched chemistry between Saban and LSU. Timing also has a lot to do with any success in life and the timing for Saban and LSU along with that chemistry just lined up the stars for both. They are a perfect fit for each other, at the right time, but I certainly see both sides to this argument.
