I will be the first one to advocate Kirk Ferentz, Stoops, one of the Miami coordinators, Tedford or Norm Chow.

I am still waiting for someone to put into context on Saban's Davis remark...

All he said was that Butch Davis would be a good fit here and he'd make a great coach. I paraphrased but it was something like that if I am remembering correctly. No one asked him, he just brought it up on his own.

Wouldn't that be strange-- the Skipper would have to call and ask permission to talk to Ferentz while Iowa is getting ready to play LSU. Can we wait until Jan 1 to start a coaching search if needed?

I'd be happy with Davis. Just don't know how serious he was about taking the year off. Seems like Cleveland gave him a nervous breakdown.

Why have a search? Everywhere I turn Butch Davis already has his name on the door of Saban's office...

    It could be deja vu-

Dinardo beats Saban, who is later hired

Saban beats Ferentz, who is later hired

Am I the only one who would love to take a long, hard look at Norm Chow? The man's resume is brilliant...

Just think, the "Chinese Bandits" on offense...

I don't know if I exactly buy that. Larry Coker took over right after Davis and went 12-0 and won the national title his very first year, with Davis's recruits.

That's not true, a reporter asked him:

"What did you think about Butch Davis coming out and saying he was interested in only LSU or Florida?"

    To which he said:

'It doesn't bother me, this is a good job. I would think there's a lot of people out there interested in thsi job. Butch Davis was a good college coach, I have a lot of respect for him. I don't know what happened to him at Cleveland...sometimes those things are more organizational, and the coach takes the brunt of it, but there's a lot of factors that contribute to that. I have a lot of respect for Butch Davis, we coached together in the East/West game and I think he's a very good coach & I think he'd be a successful coach in college if he did it again.'
