serious discussion on next coach should saban leave. lets try to keep this one on subject. list as many candidates as you want. my list would be; in order 1. Mike Shannahan- 2 super bowl rings, great offensive mind, Has had limited success since Elway retired. 2. Gruden- considered on of the top offensive minds in the nfl, Hardest wroker in the NFL, not a good players coach 3. Mike Tice- Has done a descent job in Minn., but i think he is better suited for college, Not sure if success is because talent of team plus his teams finish weak. 4. Tedford- turned around cal while playing in a major conference, not sure about recruiting ability outside of recruiting juco 5. Davis- great recruiter, not sold on gameday recruiting. 6. Petrino- turned UL into power, says he isn't leaving 7. Norm Chow- has helped turn USC into a national power, one of the best QB and OC coaches around, has no HC expiernce 8- Rick Neuhisal(sp?)- Considered a great coach/recruiter, had trouble with NCAA 9. Mike Price- Great coach/recruiter, but had trouble at bama. 10a. Jimbo- think he would great head coach, proven recruiter, never been HC 10b. Muschamp- think he will eventually be a better HC then Jimbo, enthuisastic, and a proven recruiter, has less expiernce then even Jimbo. I think this should be the list and not just for here pretty much any school. I think #11 on the list would have to be Dawkins from Boise ST. or Jim Fassel. I would be happy if we could get any of these coaches.
Mike Shanahan isn't going anywhere, much less leaving the NFL for college. Mike Tice will be out of a job at the end of this season and is a total meathead that couldn't relate to high school kids. as I've said in earlier posts, there is nothing to prove that butch davis is an excellent recruiter. miami sells itself and butch has burned many bridges with players and others in the Clevelnad organization. I would agree with Hotdog - I think Frentz would be one of my top candidates. why stoops would leave OU is beyond me.
First you need an interim coach. Bobby Williams would have to coach the team into the Capital One/Citrus Bowl. He won the bowl game back in 2000. He was a head coach and has experience against Ferentz and Iowa.
frentz isn't going anywhere and neither is stoops. Shanny will be out of a job at the end of this season. Also there have been rumors that Gruden wants out of TB. Friday how in the hell do you know if Tice couldn't relate? Most high school kids want to play in the NFL and all he has to say hey I was a Head Coach in the NFL. The players love him in Minn. And if Miami is so easy to recruit then how come the other 2 coaches before Davis didn't have the talent on the team that Butch assembled? To say he isn't a good recruter is ludacris. Oh and i did post this on the other thread but thought I would start a new one cause the other kinda got off subject.
Mike Shannahan- likely to be fired and doubtful to leave NFL. Jon Gruden- no way, doubtful if he'd leave TB plus he's been dealing with a mutiny of sorts Mike Tice- shouldn't be an NFL head coach, much less a college coach Jeff Tedford- I like Tetford, if a guy can win at Cal then he should be able to win at schools with better athletes and that actually care about athletics, but just resigned a big deal Butch Davis- would be a great fit at LSU, cleaned up a Miami Thug U and Coker won with his players, great recruiter. And just for laughs - the last Miami guy LSU hired turned out to be pretty darn good head coach Bobby Petrino- turned UL into power, says he isn't leaving and not likely to, especially when UL can go into the Big East and go right to the top and compete for a BCS bid much, much easier than he can in the SEC Norm Chow- has helped turn USC into a national power, one of the best QB and OC coaches around, has no HC expiernce and it makes me wonder why he keeps getting turned down for HC jobs - has to be a reason and I'm wondering if he just doesn't interview well Rick Neuhisal - I think LSU is out of his league; would be like hiring DiNardo or Curley again Mike Price- As badly as we hammered the Gumps about Price's antics, the guy can flat out coach. Look, he's led Wash. State (in Pullman, Wash.) out of obscurity to national prominence. Then in one year turned perennial whipping boy UTEP into an 8 win, bowl bound team. The guy is a good coach. Jimbo Fisher - I think he would great head coach too, just not at LSU right now. He needs to go to a mid-major or lower level BCS conference school and establish himself as a winner first. Will Muschamp- I agree that one day will be good, just not yet. :geaux:
Ferentz is a possibility....but you have ZERO chance at Stoops (which is nothing to be ashamed of....as I doubt there is a job in the country, NFL or otherwise, that could pull Stoops out of Norman).
No way Ferentz leaves Iowa for LSU. No knock against any school, but he's got a great deal at Iowa. He can compete for BCS bowls there.
