http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/epaper/2004/12/14/a1c_fins_1214.html If he plays a role in Saban leaving LSU to take the Dolphins job, Eddie Jones may want to reconsider retiring to Baton Rouge. Anyways, since this guy's a Dolphins beat writer, I give this more credibility than anything I've seen so far. Hey, if he goes to Miami, he gets to coach against Bill Bellichek twice a year. Also, if the "word is out there" that Saban is keeping an eye on NFL job openings, then the fact that Butch Davis isn't interviewing elsewhere make a little more sense, eh?
       Saban, vacation    Seriously,
I will now go and bury my head in the sand! (Fingers plugging my ears so as not to hear)..........la la la lal la la la
He is not leaving... Guys, how many times have we read this crap over the years, its like a broken record... All of a sudden we are going to believe this crap. Until Saban says I am leaving or Bertman says it, this is all about as credible as Michael Moore.
in the last couple of days this story has come to the forefront but if you consider the source it makes the whole thing seem to be a bit of BS. Mike Florio, who runs a pro football "rumor" site, said Saban interviewed over the weekend. After being informed that Saban was highly visible at the dome over the weekend, Florio "corrected" his story and said he misunderstood his source and that Saban was to interview this week. This story was picked up by the NFL network. If you have ever read Florio's site or had the pleasure of e-mailing him, you would find a bitter, crass jackass who will cuss you out for no reason and, without prompting, will tell you that ANY coach would jump at the NFL over college. That is, to me, where this stuff grows. This guy thinks every coach is longing for an NFL job, and he cannot see any other perspective. Suppose Saban was going to interview, most likely he would have done it in the break before his team starts preparations for the bowl game, correct? He had a couple of weeks free. When Saban wanted the LSU job he made a decisive, quick move. Saban is recruiting like a madman, and we are in line for a great class. Saban has had some really good things to say lately about his job at LSU and Baton Rouge. If you listen to Saban on his show, he seems happy and content and most importantly, excited about the future of LSU. I may be wearing my "Purple and Gold glasses" and I could be setting myself up for a big disappointment, but I think time is on our side. With the opening of the new football center, the new TS expansion and all the talent and depth on our roster it seems LSU is loaded and could see success in the near future even bigger than what we've recently experienced. Would you want to leave that and let - ummm, lets say.. Butch Davis - come in and get the glory? no, me either. this is all my opinion, but I like to try and put a positive opinion out there because we all know these "reports" get tiresome. BTW, that miami beat writer is just pointing out the NFL network report.
Nick does this every year. LSU pays him a NFL salary because he is regularly offered NFL jobs. So Nick and Jimmy Sexton don't discourage these overtures--it improves Nick's perceived value. I once though it hurt recruiting, but with the talent hauls that Nick has brought in--it must not. The NFL will always be there for Nick and he may go there to cap his career someday, but he's going to ride this horse for a while and reap the benefits of his last four recruiting classes which were ranked #1, #15, #1, and #2. And we're in the top-10 again this year. There will be more championships here.
I was listening to 1210 AM yesterday (don't laugh) and whatshisface in the afternoon was saying that Tirk (would that be our resident Tirk?) said Saban held a meeting to discuss him having meetings in Cleveland which turned out to be false. I love the rumor mill. Next thing you'll tell me is that Spurrier turned down the Florida job to coach at South Carolina.
That would be our resident tirk. Frankly, I enjoy listening to him tongue Ott's ass when he calls in. All kidding aside, he is usually a very articulate caller with valid points. Same thing with the usual NFL callers (Montana, Big E, etc.) They spend too much time happily and peacefully agreeing with Jimmy for much real conversation to go on. Montana needs to lose the whole drawl thing he does with the maaiiiiin noooooooooo man that's ridiiiiiiiiiculousssssss schtick. Gets old real fast. I'm still boycotting Ott's show cause of his refusal to discuss basketball last season as we were playing UTAH at home. I said this to Buddy one day then Tirk called in to Ott and blasted me for that (and as usual, ott denied the whole thing...i blame short memory)
